Covid - Should I let someone who had covid see my baby?

This person says they are recovered, it’s Day 13 since start of symptoms. I’m worried about them being around baby, holding baby, being around me also in the house. Aibu?

Are they now testing negative? Maybe I'm a bit OTT, but I personally wouldn't with a young baby. I know it's supposedly very mild for babies if they catch it but I wouldn't want to risk it of it was unavoidable. I would either defer till next week, or ask of they would mind doing a lateral flow first

MaryShelley1818 · 12/03/2022 06:32

Day 13, they are recovered and are no longer even advised to isolate so yes of course.

ManateeFair · 12/03/2022 06:36

Assuming they’ve had a negative lateral flow test, it’s fine.

rebekuh · 12/03/2022 07:04

If somebody had w cold 13 days ago, would you worry?

UnsuitableHat · 12/03/2022 07:09

If they’re now testing negative I don’t think they’re any different from someone who hasn’t had covid.

GodspeedJune · 12/03/2022 07:10

Even if it’s mild for babies, it’s the last thing you need to be dealing with. I’d wait a few more days.

Normandy144 · 12/03/2022 07:10

Assuming they're testing negative then yes of course I would see them.

EatYourVegetables · 12/03/2022 07:10

My DC had covid, went back to school on day 11 as per regulations. 4 days later DC’s best friend had covid. Maybe that’s a coincidence- it was going around the class. But still.

Just because BoJo says it’s 10 days now, doesn’t mean it is. If you’d be more comfortable with a longer gap, ask for it. I think YANBU

Thewindwhispers · 12/03/2022 07:12

Yanbu. I’d wait another week

LilacPaisley · 12/03/2022 07:12

My friend is still testing positive after 14 days so I'd be avoiding for another week or so.

PineappleSundays · 12/03/2022 07:13

They don't need to isolate after 10 days (well no one needs to isolate at all now but by the by).

However YANBU to not have anyone around your baby if you don't want to.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 12/03/2022 07:14

You can still test positive for 90 days. At 13 days they won't be infectious.

Baaaa · 12/03/2022 07:14

Personally I'd wait if you are uncomfortable

londonrach · 12/03/2022 07:14

Depends are they testing negative...at day 13 it's likely they don't have covid now. Ask if they had Two negative covid tests.

saraclara · 12/03/2022 07:15

If they're testing negative then of course it's fine.
There are some ridiculous answers on here.

BobbinHood · 12/03/2022 07:15

They don’t need to be testing negative to no longer be infectious, people can test positive for months. But you can choose who sees your baby anyway.

FTEngineerM · 12/03/2022 07:16

Erm, what are you going to do if you get covid?

Stay away from your baby? Lock them in a room on their own?

Even if they did catch covid it’s a minuscule percentage chance of the baby becoming incredibly ill, I mean really minuscule.

Baaaa · 12/03/2022 07:16

You can test positive for ages after covid.

Anyway this is about you and how comfortable you are OP

2021s · 12/03/2022 07:17

It’s not a cold though is it

saraclara · 12/03/2022 07:19

What's the betting that this person is OP's MIL?

Baaaa · 12/03/2022 07:23

@saraclara

What's the betting that this person is OP's MIL?
Doesn't matter. MILs get Covid too. Mine seemed to think she was immune and refused to wear a mask as I'd asked. I was so vulnerable and weak after the birth I didn't have the energy to argue but my goodness I wish I'd stood up for myself.
RandomQuest · 12/03/2022 07:33

Ask if they’ve had a negative LFT. If they have then it’s about as low risk as you can possibly get because unlike with anyone else there’s no chance they’re unknowingly incubating it.

Sally090807 · 12/03/2022 07:40

Yes ask for a negative test as I was testing positive a good three weeks after having covid

heldinadream · 12/03/2022 07:40

How old's your baby OP? Sounds like we could be talking newborn-ish, in which case you can ask anyone to stay away that you like, and yes def someone who's only just had covid.

If they tested negative, fine
