MrsTerryPratchett · 11/03/2022 20:37

I did travel and don't regret it!

youdoyoutoday · 11/03/2022 20:38

Yes, very much so!! I wish I'd travelled more rather than showing loyalty to managers/jobs that, looking back, really did not deserve me, my time or loyalty!
Now with 2 children, getting out the front door to the car seems like a fucking day trip in itself!

Go! Travel, see the world!!

drawingpad · 11/03/2022 20:38

I didn't travel at all, but there are no regrets as I didn't want to travel. I think it's different if you still want to.

ItsAHardKn0ckLife1 · 11/03/2022 20:39

I didn’t travel and definitely regret it! I will be encouraging DC to travel when they’re old enough Smile

Coronado2 · 11/03/2022 20:39

Yes, I didn't travel at all and I wish I had. I will strongly recommend it to my daughters.

switswoo81 · 11/03/2022 20:39

Stupid question but do you enjoy travelling? I think lots of people like the idea of it more than the reality. Or do you want a check list ticked, there is no right answer.
I travelled a lot before the kids came along and I absolutely loved it, looking back though it was a hard slog at times.

Ylvamoon · 11/03/2022 20:40

Travel while you can.

Ponoka7 · 11/03/2022 20:40

Do more traveling. You never know how health etc will impact on what you can do and some holidays you lose the taste for when you move into the next decade.

QueenOfHiraeth · 11/03/2022 20:41

I lived and worked abroad for about 2 years in my 20s, had a great job, flat and social life but can't say I really enjoyed it. I wish I'd either thrown myself into it more and made more of that time or not done it at all and got on the property ladder sooner

Ilikewinter · 11/03/2022 20:43

I''d definatley travel, me and DH have done many long haul trips over the last 15 years, now i feel im done with travelling, cant be bothered with the long flights and jet lag but wouldnt change it for the world. I say so do it whilst you have the appetite for it. Now we have a puppy and have prepared ourselves for holidays in a caravan 😂

babbi · 11/03/2022 20:45

Always travel - top priority- doing up the house etc can wait … 😊

MelCat · 11/03/2022 20:45

Wished I’d travelled more and live abroad for a bit. It’s my one big regret in life. My parents are very sensible and it was very much get a job after university.

I wish I’d been braver to just go and travel and/or study abroad,

kitcat15 · 11/03/2022 20:46

I travelled/ worked abroad for 3 years....then got my house...then had children then qualified inn my profession....all a bit back to front....but was mortgage free by 48 .... no regrets

thefemaleJoshLyman · 11/03/2022 20:46

I regret not travelling. I really hope that we can see the world when we retire but not convinced we'll be able to afford it. Sad

bobsholi · 11/03/2022 20:50

I didn't travel and I really regret it. I chose to have a family and buy a house young instead. To be honest, if I had travelled and ultimately ended up not meeting the right person or not being in a position to buy a house I would have regretted that too. I think you just have to do what is right for you in that particular moment and try not to look too far ahead.

Time2Sly · 11/03/2022 20:51

There is no age limit to travelling !

Ginger1982 · 11/03/2022 20:53

Yup. I wasn't allowed to have a gap year.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 11/03/2022 20:55

I wish I'd lived abroad for at least a year.
I grew up in a very small town mentality place and at the ages/stages people do that I just wasn't ready - blew my mind a little bit that you would just up sticks and spend a couple of years in China or whatever. By the time I was of a mindset that this would be an adventure I'd had DC and it all seemed to complicated, and my job isn't really one that's easy to do or in demand elsewhere.

DC1 is planning to study overseas, whether just for a year or for the whole course, and I fully intend to live vicariously through her.

XenoBitch · 11/03/2022 20:55

Yeah. I had the chance, but anxiety got the better of me. Will never be able to travel now.

YvanEhtNiojYvanEhtNioj · 11/03/2022 20:55

Agree with pp, do you actually want to travel? Or do you just think you have to tick off lists and take photos for Instagram?

GeneLovesJezebel · 11/03/2022 20:56

Yes, should have travelled before I had kids.

A580Hojas · 11/03/2022 20:59

I sometimes feel sad that I haven't travelled more.

But then I remind myself that I did what most people do - work full time with a max of 4 weeks holiday per year, and for at least the first 10 years of my career probably more I didn't earn enough to go on more than a quick trip to Europe as my annual holiday. Then children came along and the costs and practicalities of their schooling made longer/further trips impossible.

Travelling extensively is the domain of the retired, the super rich, or nowadays the fucking Instragrammers.

ShavingTheBadger · 11/03/2022 21:01

I didn’t travel - my mum was diagnosed with cancer as I finished uni and I cancelled a gap year to care for her through treatment and eventually until she died. I don’t regret it - we bonded in a way I still treasure and I’d do it all again tomorrow, but I do feel sad that I never got to do it; grieving, work and boyfriends got in the way. I do travel when I can, but I think my dream of a year off to go and travel the world is over.

Itsbackagain · 11/03/2022 21:01

Yes! Concentrated on working hard and making a career and a home. Hitting 50 have Crohns and Cancer for 2nd time..If I could go back!!!

ImInStealthMode · 11/03/2022 21:01

It's each to their own. I did travel and still regret not doing more of it or for longer periods of time. Others are happy never having been far.
