Joint parties with siblings!

Dd has had 3 invites from kids in her class. All are having a joint party with their much younger siblings over the next week or two. March is a busy month 😅

Do you just buy a gift for the child your child is friends with? Or both?

I wouldn't mind usually but it's 6 bloody gifts. Totally skint right now 🤯

I think it would be perfectly acceptable to just buy a present for the sibling that your DC is friends with. If you don’t know the sibling particularly well I can’t see how you’d need to bring a present.

I have twins. Their friends brought a gift for the child who invited them. We never did joint invites, which I think is CF territory!

Child she knows!

FirstTimeSecondTime · 11/03/2022 19:26

Just a gift for the child that invited your child

CaptainMerica · 11/03/2022 19:27

I'm doing a joint party this month, and definitely do not expect presents for both kids. I sent one invite to DC1s friends, and a different invite to DC2's friends. If any of them know its a joint party, it's only because I've mentioned it in passing.

Kage30 · 11/03/2022 19:32

Thanks all. Invites have both names on so I'm just a bit confused what is expected! Been so long since regular parties have been a thing 😅

Dd wants a joint party with her classmate in the summer but that's probably a little different cos they are in the same class anyway. If they didn't have a joint party, there would be 2 parties anyway as close together 😅

I was pondering a joint party (dcs v close in age but not twins) but it didn’t happen for a few reasons.

I was worrying about gifts…. was going to invite the whole class but 20+ kids each bringing a gift for both I felt was so stressful. My dcs are in the same class so my plan was to put half the invites in dc1s name and half in dc2s name. I wouldn’t have expected everyone to bring 2 gifts. I don’t have a big enough house 😂

nervousseacreature · 11/03/2022 19:34

Op I would either get a small joint gift or just one gift for the child you know.

billy1966 · 11/03/2022 19:38

Lots of joint parties here over the years, and a very small gift or a £5 in a car was the done thing.

legalseagull · 11/03/2022 19:45

My DD has been invited to a joint party. It's a joint party for FIVE girls in her class! Five fucking presents.
I appreciate the parents want to save money by splitting the cost of the venue and bouncey castle, but bloody hell, I can afford five presents

legalseagull · 11/03/2022 19:46

Can't * afford five presents!!!

That’s ridiculous!!!! 😱

£2 coin in card each!

DontLookBackInAnger1 · 11/03/2022 19:50

Just the kid your child knows. The others will get gifts from their little friends

MaizeAmaze · 11/03/2022 19:52

We've often had joint parties for my kids.
Invites only from one child to one child. I never put both names on an invite! I think present only for the child you know - or something from poundland and a card if you want something for the sibling.

The 5 way spilt is a pretty good deal for the birthday parents. A nightmare for the invitees. I'd get a box set of books or similar and split, or it will be ££££.

BluebellsGreenbells · 11/03/2022 20:45

Yes but that would be one present per party - the expectation is two gifts one party.

legalseagull · 11/03/2022 21:54

Apparently The Works have a 2 for £6 deal, so I'll be sorting the 5 presents from there totalling £18. All five kids on the invite. I just don't think the parents have thought about this side of it at all

BogRollBOGOF · 11/03/2022 22:05

DS2 invited friends to DS1's birthday party. I made it clear that he was just inviting friends for the fun of it because he couldn't have his own party for two years (and especially as he'll have his own party not so long later)

I'd just go for the child inviting/ that we know.

We have had joint parties as in one DC's class, the birthdays are very clustered. I buy a present for each child then. Ultimately, I'd buy the presents anyway and it was a lot of party time saved out of weekends!
