Maybe too late for this winter, but it will stand you in good stead for next.

Most modern boilers don’t reach the efficiency promised because the flow temperature is set too high. I turned ours down in December, the house is still warm, and we cut our gas usage noticeably. Maybe 10%. You may need to experiment to find the optimum setting for your house, but significant savings are possible.

Microbore pipes are a lot thinner than normal pipework, think the size of your little finger. Ordinary pipes are at least 15mm (1 inch).
DD’s house was built in 1996 and has microbore, so a heat pump wouldn’t be possible without ripping out ALL the pipes so not financially or practically feasible.
The faster that central heating water returns to the boiler and the smaller the rads ( or if some are off) the less heat is lost and the water won’t condense above 55 degrees, which means less efficiency ( hot steam goes out of the vent and that energy is wasted) It’s a bit more complicated than that as it also depends on the length of pipe runs etc. our downstairs pipework is buried under concrete floors so loses less heat than if it was surface mounted for example.

Furries : has your boiler got digital controls? It should be a panel with buttons that shows the pressure and has either an image of a radiator or a tap that changes when you press a button.
If it’s dials then setting the temperature just above half way should suffice. If your radiators feel too hot to leave your hand on then the temp is too high.

So do I turn both the hot water and radiator dials? I'm confused!

Any tips for those of us with pressurised tanks rather than a combi? I've just increased our duel fuel direct debit to £400 a month Shock

Think of them as two separate systems which just happen to be inside the same unit. They can be adjusted independently.

Thanks OP, I've been wondering why my consumption has jumped, but just remembered that the plumber changed the flow setting when he serviced the boiler a couple of months ago!

I think simplest is to set the radiator dial and see where the temp settles. A flow of 65 pretty much guarantees condensation.
If you have the user manual that will give you flow temp at which setting. If you dont you can easily find online.

I have a bosch. Max is 95, 5 is 75, 4 is 67, 3 is 60, 2 is 52.
Min is set 3.5 for about 64 and return is 46/42 depending if i am heating just ground floor or whole house.
Rcv can Also increase return and if several rads have shut down return can be close to 50.
