AIBU to be upset for my DD?

Every morning I drop my DD to senior school and she walks the rest of the way with a group of girl friends. There’s about 5/6 of them altogether. Usually we get there at a time when some friends are still on their way so all of the girls wait including my DD until everyone’s there and they walk in together. They call it their ‘morning girls group’. We would usually arrive with a couple friends already there, yet a couple still on their way.

This morning we were running a little later than normal (only by a couple of minutes) and my DD had text her group to say she was still going to be there.

Anyways when we get there, NONE of her friends are there, not one. She called a friend and they said that they ‘had already left. Sorry.’

My DD said she wasn’t bothered but I could tell she was upset and now I can’t stop thinking about it and wondering if she’s ok.

I feel really upset for her. What does this mean? It’s not as if she doesn’t wait for everyone else and it’s not like we were so late that the girls had to get to school on time. It was marginal. There’s been times when she’s been there and her friends have been even later but they all still wait for everyone.

AIBU to think that this is upsetting?

What time have they waited until in the past?

WeDontShutUpAboutBruno · 10/03/2022 09:24

What does this mean?

It means they didn't want to be late to school so left.

In the kindest possible way, you're being a little dramatic about this.

DearDiary123 · 10/03/2022 09:25

@Hankunamatata until everyone is there. I’d say the latest would be about 10 minutes after we got there today otherwise they’d be late. So I would totally understand if that was the case, but we were about 2/3 mins later than normal.

Perhaps your DD is on the fringes of the group, not one of the main friends ?
It happens, and girls can be mean.

Littlemissprosecco · 10/03/2022 09:28

They’re just teenagers! Needed to get somewhere, don’t over think it.

If you're worrying about her re this you're far too invested. Let her navigate it and work it out. It's part of growing up.

DearDiary123 · 10/03/2022 09:40

you’re far too invested

yep I could agree with this.

Thank you all, I am most likely being too sensitive.

Don't worry about this, it happens all the time with teenage girls this type of thing. I'm sure they weren't being deliberately hurtful. They'll all have been chatting ten to the dozen, their heads filled with lots of stuff, and if it wasn't your daughter it would have been someone else. It's honestly not worth fretting over.

DearDiary123 · 10/03/2022 09:52

@Ciaram55 that’s true! Thank you

Don't feel bad for worrying about this. My daughter has a social developmental delay and I spend far too much time worrying about this sort of stuff. Its natural as a parent.
Hopefully your dd will be fine and all will be forgotten as the day goes on. Just be there and open to listening to her without being pushy and she will find her own way in such situations.

DearDiary123 · 10/03/2022 10:13

@Rewritethestars1 thank you for this, I had my DD at 20 so I do feel like I’m too emotionally invested in her as it’s just been us two for so many years.

Will wait to see what she’s like at pick up but my guess is all will be ok so I won’t bring it up.
