My sister in law works in the wholesale industry and said that office products ( especially paper) is in short supply and that they are struggling to get any. She said that a lot of paper comes from Russia and prices have gone up by nearly half which of course is going to be passed onto the consumer.
With the used car thread, petrol, utilities where is it going to end? Even buying a pack of paper and a stapler is going to be extortionate.

@MeanMrMustardSeed

I agree that there are some things that are worrying, but our consumerism and ridiculous expectations has got to stop.

30% of the food farmers grow in this country never leaves the farm. It doesn’t meet supermarket ‘standards’ as it’s too odd / large / small / there’s too much. We need to sort out this crazy food production system and eat the food we grow.

So many car journeys are unnecessary and incredibly short. Paper is wasted without a second thought. People hear their houses in winter so that they’re wearing t shirts indoors.
We need to go back 80 years and look after our resources much better.

Fully agree.

I get all my veg and meat from local farm shops. Strangely the shape of a carrot doesn’t impact how it tastes. Buying local also has the bonus of lower mileage for it to travel too.

Taxes, swiftly followed by max Inflation if all the public sector strikes achieve their pay goals, then a severe Depression, the likes of which hardly any of us are old enough to have experienced before. Including mass unemployment. It'll be Food Lines not Food Banks if we imagine any of us can demand more of the diminishing pie no matter how much we put into society and feel we deserve a larger slice. Wait until there's more pie to share for a larger slice.

Be careful what you wish for folks....

As Martin Lewis said on R4 this morning, it’s important that we don’t allow this narrative to take over that the conflict in Ukraine is responsible for this issues. This was coming anyway.

Absolutely & Is argue it was coming before covid

Indeed. I wonder if everything is coming to a head at once to "bury bad news" as Blair did with 9/11? Or like listed companies do when they have a bad year - they make lots of other provisions to in order to "bury" all the bad news/losses/write offs etc in one year to get them out of the way.

The economy was on borrowed time anyway after the 2008 crash with the "rescue" widely known to be just kicking it into the long grass.

Brexit, Covid, and Putin is a good time to "reset" the economy in terms of inflation, interest rates, exchange rates, etc., i.e. necessary changes to deal with the aftermath of the 2008 crash, but instead of being honest, Brexit, Covid and Putin are being blamed.

I'm not saying those three factors aren't having an impact - they clearly are having massive impact, but "resetting" the economy "due" to those is handy and resolves other long term issues too!
