  1. Very attractive house with lovely garden in convenient location - quick walk to shops, amenities and transport links. Good schools, overall nice area.

However - parking is on-street with a residents’ permit system.

  1. Less attractive house in less nice area on outskirts of town. A drive from transport links, shops and amenities. Local school not as good.

But it has a large drive with space for at least two cars.

What do you think?

Somewhere else

Why does someone always have to do this on threads with two choices?!

House one every time. The electric car thing is nonsense - there are charging points being installed in loads of places.

Fairisleflora · 09/03/2022 22:25

House 2 sounds horrendous. Grim suburbia with a drive v a beautiful place in a vibrant area. I’d get rid of the DH if he seriously thinks house 2 could possibly be an option.

Location location location

Over everything. Every time!

House 1.

We had permit parking at our last house. Could always park close enough. It was more than fine.

I'd rather have permit parking than not as with permit parking it's a relatively stable number of cars after the spaces.

We have a few friends living on roads in our town that are non permit and are near to town/pubs/parks and they really struggle as people park outside their house for the other amenities. Obviously they are well within their rights too but it makes it a difficult place to live for them. If they had permits it would be fine.

Because I can't choose either of those things. And we were asked for our opinion. That's mine. Sorry!

But when there are only two options, you can’t choose option three - that’s a matter of fact, not opinion!

AdrianCanChaseMe · 09/03/2022 23:20

The first one.

Unless of course you get a neighbour like I have currently who parks his penis extension car like a twat across one of my two parking spaces and complains when I let one of the other neighbours park in my spare space .

sst1234 · 09/03/2022 23:23

Location, location, location. Always.

  1. No brainer for me.
BluebellsGreenbells · 09/03/2022 23:31

We have a drive - like many round us, but not many bother parking on it!

I would say bar shopping into the house when it’s rainy, then there’s no real need.

bettertocryinamercedes · 10/03/2022 07:40

Friend of mine has house number 1 and it's a fab location. Sometimes a bit awkward to park if you visit

Can you convert the front garden into a wee parking space? Lots of his neighbours have ans got a Dropped kerb installed

PosiePerkinPootleFlump · 10/03/2022 08:59

We live in your house 1. No way in the world I'd swap for house 2.

I don't get the obsession with a driveway unless someone has very significant mobility issues.

Madmaxxy · 10/03/2022 09:08
  1. But drive up and down the road at different times of day and on a weekend etc. We can always park within a few spaces of our house but there are some roads in our area that are an absolute nightmare.
Changechangychange · 10/03/2022 09:13

One without a doubt.

WindyPopPops · 10/03/2022 09:43

Id go with house 2. Parking is really important to me and I'd worry that they can increase the price of PP whenever they want.

Blossomtoes · 10/03/2022 09:50

But a couple of my DH’s friends have told him they wouldn’t buy a house with no offstreet parking if it was the last house on earth, which has got to him.

It’s a man thing. We’ve lived in our house without off street parking for over 20 years. It’s never bothered me in the slightest, my bloke regularly moans about it.

roxisolerenshaw · 10/03/2022 10:01

No 1. I've lived in both and a driveway is a luxury but not a deal breaker
