To ask if money gets tight will you cancel your cleaner??

I am a cleaner, and with prices of everything rising, I'm wondering if or when the cancellations will start coming.

Will you prioritise a clean house and cut back on other things?

At the moment I am not short of work, but may need to increase the hourly rate for my furtherest away clients. I'm holding back as I'm worried about pricing myself out. I charge between £10 and £11/hour. There are people in my area advertising cleaning for £8/£9 an hour.

If you have a cleaner, will you keep them on or needs must and get rid

@GiraffesInScarfs
This feels like a massive generalisation. How many cleaners have you had do this? Seems odd to me.

TheMagpie · 10/03/2022 06:47

I know many people who'd benefit mentally and physically if they had access to a cleaner or even other household carers - a cook for example, or a personal shopper.

I feel like this is something that should be subsidised for disabled, elderly and infirm folk who live alone. I know it truly would improve my quality of life, not to mention others in worse positions than I!

tirednewmumm · 10/03/2022 07:42

She would be the last thing to go, she only comes an hour a week but she's so efficient it makes a massive difference to the family time we get on a weekend

CharSiu · 10/03/2022 08:04

I don’t have a cleaner currently because I just couldn’t find a replacement. I adored my cleaner she was with me for years but she moved and changed jobs. Would have been one of the last things to go.

SkiingIsHeaven · 10/03/2022 08:14

If we got rid of our lovely cleaner we would end up having a divorce too.

We only ever argued about the state of the house.

Darbs76 · 10/03/2022 08:23

I pay £15 an hour so £30 a week. I work full time and I’m super busy and she’s a friend of mine so I won’t cancel unless I can help it. I currently work overtime every Saturday (from home) which helps financially and have an interview for a promotion next week, so trying my best to maximise my income in preparation

Darbs76 · 10/03/2022 08:24

@TheMagpie - I guess for those in receipt of benefits such as PIP that money is for helping with care needs

badg3r · 10/03/2022 08:27

Ours costs us around £120 a month. I'd rather cut back on other things first like eating out.

JoieDeLivres · 10/03/2022 09:28

I'd have to cancel myself😂

😂🙌🏻🙌🏻

Rainbowdrops2021 · 10/03/2022 09:52

I’ve just cancelled mine 🙁.

Thejugglestruggle · 10/03/2022 09:56

Nope, our cleaner is v high up on our list of priorities. She is fantastic and makes a real difference to our lives.

towers14 · 10/03/2022 10:09

I'm a cleaner, and your prices are too low. I charge £13.50 which I increased from £12.50 a couple of months ago, one was not happy but didn't cancel, the rest were ok, one even gives a little extra. Op you need to value your worth and if somebody cancels you'll pick more work up quickly. Yes people are tightening their belts, me included, but cleaners will always get employment, plenty of people prepared to pay for a good service.

She’s in N Ireland and charging the market rate.

@TheMagpie We've had many cleaners over the years and what @GiraffesInScarfs describes is a repeat experience. They start off fine then take the piss by cutting corners and leaving early.

Only two out of about probably 15 didn't do that and we've always paid above the going rate and are, I think, decent and fair people. I wonder if there's some sort of underlying resentment about the nature of the work.
Anyway, definitely not a generalisation and if I could find another cleaner like the 2 good ones, I'd be more inclined to hire someone again but I resent paying for sloppy work when DH and I can't afford to be substandard in our own self employments.

LittleMsPerfect · 10/03/2022 12:24

I cancelled my cleaner

But I am on Mat leave and will be going back to work part time so since been i the house more I'm finding housework less of a chore and I more free time in general so don't mind spending some of it cleaning to my standards!!

Full disclosure I am considering buying a robot hoover though!!

Lostmyway86 · 10/03/2022 12:43

I'd give up a lot of things before I'd give up my cleaner. She's saved my sanity!
