Itchy legs at night driving me insane

motormouth89 · 09/03/2022 07:55

I'm posting here for traffic because I can't do another sleepless night.

All through the night I'm waking up to itchy legs, so so itchy and I have no idea why.

I haven't changed laundry detergent/softener, the bedsheets are the same material, I just cannot work out what's going on.

I've tried cold water, E45 moisturiser, I've tried no pj bottoms. I can't sleep and it's driving me insane and I have bruises all over.

Please help me work out what's going on!

The bruises are weird. You don't get bruises by scratching. Do you think they are related? If so, I'd see a doctor.

Menopause??
I have the same, try rubbing tea tree oil on, it stinks but helps relieve the itch, or e45 itch relief cream.

CowsAreNotGreen · 09/03/2022 08:00

If you don't normally get that many bruises you need to see a doctor

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 09/03/2022 08:01

Even if you haven't changed products, the quantities in detergents can be altered which can then irritate. Ditch softener altogether and use Surcare detergent. Use CeraVe cream and see the GP if this doesn't help.

Does your doctor have one of those econsult things you can send a photo through to? This really needs to be checked out.

motormouth89 · 09/03/2022 08:03

Thank you everyone.

I'll try book in with my GP.

Hope it's not the menopause I'm not even 30 yet 😭

Unexplained bruises are caused by bleeding into the skin. You should see a doctor to investigate what’s happening.

JS87 · 09/03/2022 08:04

Have you just shaved your legs? I get really itchy legs after shaving.

Icemast · 09/03/2022 08:06

Agree with others to get checked out, it's probably nothing serious but can be.

Dammitthisisshit · 09/03/2022 08:07

Just go to a GP.

I have lymphoma and looking back did get a symptom of itchy skin which I dismissed, if I’d gone to a GP it wouldn’t have spread as much and I might not be looking at stage 4 cancer.

Those bruises don’t look like the rash I was getting so I don’t want to panic you - I’m not saying you have lymphoma! But itchy skin can be symptomatic of other conditions. (Could it be the menopause?)

But with that bruising you need to get it checked out.

Dammitthisisshit · 09/03/2022 08:09

Sorry cross posted - not the menopause then, but please go to a GP.

WhiteXmas21 · 09/03/2022 08:11

I think it could be anaemia OP, especially given that you are only 30.

Hope you get it fixed soon.

nomistake · 09/03/2022 08:14

I get this, and I get the bruises from scratching so much. I've been tracking when it happens and I think its linked to my cycle - it happens mid cycle. I looked it up online and there does seem to be a proven connection between when hormones dip after ovulation and itchy legs.

Pedalpushers · 09/03/2022 08:37

I used to get this as a teenager and I'm sure it was hormone related. TMI but I now get a similar thing in more intimate parts at certain times of the month.

ENoeuf · 09/03/2022 08:38

I had to go on iron tablets which cured this.

Luredbyapomegranate · 09/03/2022 08:48

It’s central heating. Skin gets drier as we get older.

Look up threads on best dry skin cream - I like O’Keefes but there are many.

moisturise at least twice a day, morning and night. Avoid hot long baths, and only wash your legs in the shower occasionally.

Cut your nails super short so you can’t scratch
Make sure your bedding is 100 pc cotton and soft

You can try a humidifier
It should get easier as the heating goes on less

Luredbyapomegranate · 09/03/2022 08:48

… but yes, I’d also second getting it double checked out by GP

longwayoff · 09/03/2022 08:52

If none of this helps, make sure you're sleeping in cotton sheets and nightwear, not polyester or a mix. Artificial fibres are a blighter for this.
