Fluid below kidneys on 32 week scan

Sorry just posting here for traffic.

I will seek proper advice but I'm very worried and wondered if someone could help.

I had 32 week scan today and US tech said there was fluid below the baby's kidneys. On the report it says cystic areas below kidneys.

She didn't say much else and said we need to wait to speak to the doctor.

Has anyone had this ? I don't have an appointment until Friday and I'm freaked out !

So sorry you are going through this. I have not had this but we did have enlarged bladder and polyhydramnios we did panic and googled everything but it turned out OK in the end. Please try not to worry until you speak to the doctor as hard as that is. Is there somone at the hospital you can talk to? Maternity triage etc?

Or your local assigned Midwife or local Midwife team. They may be able to offer some reassurance.

I might give them a call tomorrow. The US tech didn't seem concerned really but she didn't seem much of anything.

She was very cold and unhelpful when we tried to get more info.

It's horrible when they are like that it makes the whole situation so much worse, I've had various ones over the years some lovely and some not and very cold. In our case the basic US techs are not that qualified to give a full diagnosis, so we were referred to a city hospital where they scanned again with a higher consultant. That appointment came through quickly. Try not to worry I would expect there to be further scans and a possible referal higher up.

Honestly the US techs have been so incredibly unfriendly and rude this pregnancy. Not even saying hello or bye and just being so stand off ish. It's really just not a humane way to treat people. At the end of the scan we asked if everything was OK and she said.

Go and sit outside in the waiting room and I'll come and give you the report.

She came to give us the report and explain something is wrong in front of loads of people in the waiting room- who does that ?

That's just awful and in all honesty I'd complain. They should not be discussing it infront of everyone that is really bad.

I hope that whoever you are referred to is kind and understanding. It maybe that baby has a problem with one of the valves and they will want to monitor it more frequently perhaps and even reccomend a section or induction so they can be prepared for any post birth issues. A lot of these things can spontaneously sort themselves out or it could be the tech was wrong. Please try not to worry until you have seen somone who is experienced and knows what they are doing. I hope you are OK Flowers
