To just shove it all on the washing machine?

Shamelessly posting here for traffic.

My DS, 3, is in a major dressing up phase. He's also in a major 'getting in a mess with bloody everything' phase so all of his costumes are covered in yoghurt, chocolate, orange juice, you name it...

Lots of them are padded, think superhero muscles, so say hand wash only. I have around 11 costumes to wash after a 'dress up' play date (a good idea at the time Grin) so am just after reassurance that chucking them all on a delicates spin won't do any harm? Will Batman suddenly be muscle-less or will all be fine?

Words of experience needed, please!!

I have a handwash facility on my machine but if yours doesn't then I would think a delicate wash will be fine.

I've definitely shoved batman through the wash and it was fine. Do a delicate wash on maybe 30 I'm sure it'll be fine.

I think you need to know what Batman's muscles are made of. If it's shaped foam, no problem. If it's more like wadded tissues, this is a problem.

@Mamamia7962 is that padded costumes? This gives me hopeGrin

Yes, I absolutely would just bung them all into the washing machine. Maybe on 30⁰, but I highly doubt that I would give a shit about Batman's muscles. 🤣🤣

I can't remember what it was but I washed something that had some sort of foam padding and it made it go lumpy. Having said that, I'm a housework disaster area so I might have overspun it. So start gentle and work up.

If you have a hand wash cycle use that, and put it in a lingerie bag if you have one. I drop the spin as low as it'll go ( or even none but then it comes out dripping). DD is more into princess dresses so not sure about padding but that saves the netting they all seem to have.

I've never washed padded costumes in the machine, just normal spiderman ones etc. If you don't want to put the padded ones in, you could soak them in vanish to get rid of the stains, handwash them and hang them outside on a windy day to drip dry and then finish them off in doors.

Currently looks like I have the cast of avengers and half of Pixar's back catalogue hanging from my washing line.... I went with hand washing the padded ones but popped the rest in a sainsburys fruit bag (closest to a lingerie bag I could find Grin)

Ds is enjoying watching the caps fly around in the wind. Thanks everyone Smile
