to ask you to help me book a solo trip

Just starting to feel better after a terrible break up - and feel like I could do with a solo trip - at the moment I am thinking UK based during Easter week
I'm torn between a city break (probably London) or a lovely spa hotel hotel
Anyone got any inspiration? what sort of thing would you do if you had a 3 night stay - have you done it? how did you find it?

I haven’t but would. Do you want to relax or be busy? A spa will likely have other singles who might be a bit of company and eating alone would feel easy. A city break is amazing but might feel a bit lonely if you’d usually be chatting about the exhibitions or shows you’ve seen.Lon balance I’d probably start with a couple of nights at a nice spa with some classes and treatments.

Actually I might do it too.😊

Good for you

Whilst I love a spa and having treatments, I'd find 3 days a bit boring.

I had a lovely long weekend a few years ago at a hotel in Edinburgh with a spa. I had a day having treatments and then a couple of days doing touristy things.
I'm sure London has lots of lovely spa hotels so you could do a bit of pampering and sight seeing
Whilst I'm perfectly fine doing things on my own, I'm not that fussed on eating alone in restaurants in the evening. I prefer to fill up on the hotel breakfast, and have a later lunch about 3 or 4, with a small snack in the hotel in the evening
Have a great time what ever you do

Hmm I need to consider what I want I think - On the one hand, a spa hotel could be great- I love swimming and could take books, magazines etc I'm wondering how different this is from the lockdown life I have been having

On the other hand, it could be nice to wander anonymously in London- going to galleries, browsing all the big shops and people watching etc

This is my way of eating too- I like to have breakfast and lunch in the city and grab something little for my hotel room in the evening.

I've travelled a lot by myself.

Personally I'd go somewhere near a beach and enjoy lots of fresh sea air but the good thing about being in London is you can be as anonymous as you want! Trip advisor is always a good place to start. Check out some parks as well to just sit and chill. Don't over commit yourself with too many plans. I would also go for a couple of nice lunches, not extravagant just some of the good local little restaurants.

Muppetlove · 08/03/2022 12:16

I should have said I would also go self-catering but that's also too difficult in London.

Thank you muppet

Spa Hotel in a city? Best of both. I always try to book spa hotels wherever we go.

GinPalace2 · 08/03/2022 15:29

I would vote for London as it’s easy on your own. There are spa hotels or you could do a day at The Sanctuary or other day spas.

You may also get good theatre tickets at the 1/2 price booth in Leicester Square.

I've been away on my own a couple of times in the last few years. I tend to book a caravan or lodge on a site then i don't feel completely isolated and pick a location where I've got places to run, walk and cycle easily. Take a couple of good books and some wine. I like being by the sea or water too.
I've never seen the attraction of spas personally, too much sitting around in damp swimwear for my liking!

cruciallyfree · 08/03/2022 15:36

I did Windsor, stayed at a great hotel, the castle, river cruises, lunch in bray and lazing about with a book.

I felt a smaller place was better for me.
I wouldn't hesitate to do it again.
