AIBU to go into work with COVID?

Someone in my family tested positive and then I started getting symptoms since Sunday. I’ve been to work since Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and will be going into work tomorrow and need someone to tell me what they would have done. I had COVID over Christmas and self-isolated from 21/12/21- 8/01/22 because basically we are a very large family and we all came down with it in stages and wouldn’t stop testing positive on the LFTs for ages after our PCRs. 4 of us work at the same place and they wanted us to come in on 4/01/22 but I said no I think we are still positive and there was a minor disagreement over it but we came in on the 8/01/22. All has been well up until last week as COVID absences were not counted on our work record. When good old Boris changed the rules, my company changed their stance and now on top of only getting statutory sick pay (like £90 a week) in a household that cost a fair bit of cash to run, COVID sickness will end up with me kissing the next leadership role, goodbye. We all took the financial hit but are now on our overdrafts (on top of work messing up our collective pay by about £1000). My OH will get in A LOT of trouble if he misses anymore work due to a vomiting bug in November and I work away from most people.

Would you have gone in?
YABU - No
YANBU - Yes

If you think COVID is a hoax/never wore a mask/government chips in the vaccine I don’t want to hear from you please, but thanks for reading.

I wouldn't go in.

You're worried you'll miss out on the next leadership role? At this place? You want to be in charge of this shit show, really?

Honestly, I'd follow my own rules whilst furiously hunting for a new job. When people have those kind of attitudes, it's not going to get any better.

Really difficult with so many of you working at the same place though, I can understand how you might worry your actions will reflect on theirs. Do you work in a very rural area where there aren't many employers, or is this a family business/massive coincidence?

I know what I would do, but I will also acknowledge I am lucky enough to afford to stick to my morals. I'd like to say I'd stick to them regardless, but haven't been in that position.

@PakkaMakka

I just came back here in regards to the “don’t ask don’t tell” actually. So it turns out that I am definitely not the only one sick nor was I ever. Where I work it is 2 degrees and in my dept it is 1, so it’s not unusual for people to be sniffling. While I was in my head and avoiding other people I didn’t friggin notice how many other people were also coughing etc. The night I was writing my first post I felt like I was going to be sick for a bit but wasn’t and the next day I was in the work bathrooms and my fav toilet smelled funny so I just used the stall next to it. Someone came in and I could hear an odd pushing sound?? I thought “lol they’re taking a dump right next to me.” No, they were heaving and the funny smell was faint vomit. My colleagues were taking me asking them not to come too close lightly, because they knew we all have it. The mate that drives us in tested positive earlier as well as a young lad from the night shift.

Over Christmas across the shifts there were about 30 of us off with COVID and now no one can afford to be off. Especially not having a week off every 8 weeks considering a lot of us would be fired. And yes, they would replace us fairly easily.
