Would you park in this car park again?

First day in new job, occasional working from city centre office with the rest of the time from home. Found a reasonably priced car park within walking distance. It had an attendant who asked what time I'd be back. I told him after 2pm (this was approx 8.30am) and paid and was shown where to park. Left the car and went to work. Returned not long after 2pm to find I was completely blocked in by a row of 5 cars. The attendant was still there so I asked how I was going to get out. He said "you'll have to wait for the owners of those cars to come back". Then said he was joking and he could move the cars. I have anxiety and his joke has honestly spoiled my day (I leave at 2pm to collect my kids from school and was scared I wouldn't be able to get to them). It obviously took him a good few minutes to move all the cars. But also not sure who these drivers are who are comfortable leaving their keys with the attendant and allowing their cars to be moved around all day. Would you park here again or try to find somewhere else even if it means paying more?

I wouldn't park there again if I had to leave at a specific time to do the school run just in case the attendant has fucked off on his tea break or something the next time. That's a bizarre way to run a car park.

This sounds like the car park near my office (Leeds) and I don’t use it for that reason.

SamphiretheStickerist · 07/03/2022 16:47

It's cheaper than others because of that arrrangment.

If it causes you any hassle park somehwere else. I don't thik I could manage it, my schedule changes too much!

I wouldn't in case of the attendant not being there, a car not starting etc. Too many factors and it always make you later leaving

Burnt0utMum · 07/03/2022 17:26

Yeah that's my worry. He was there this time but that doesn't mean he will be next time. Don't like the thought of relying on someone else to have access to my car.

Nope. A car park in Glasgow had a similar set up and refused to pay for damage to a car they moved, there were no cameras and I suspect probably didn’t have insurance in place to move the cars

Hard for anyone to meaningfully answer that without knowing the details.

How much does it cost
How much is the non blocky inny car park
How much closer/further away are they from your office
What's your household budget like
How old are the kids
How much does it matter if you're late collecting them
Could you leave earlier to give extra time for faffing around waiting for car
Could you get the train instead

Etc etc etc

NOPE! I'd rather pay more than have an attendant playing musical cars around mine.

R00K · 07/03/2022 19:49

A lot of car parks in London are like this. I've never had a problem getting out in any of them.

girlmom21 · 07/03/2022 19:49

I suppose it depends how much more other car parks will cost

100problems · 07/03/2022 20:22

I've found this very usual in London car parks, and wouldn't consider it a problem. Same as I do valet parking at airports.

Now you know the drill, get friendly with him and he will look after you.

Starseeking · 07/03/2022 20:25

No. Not being able to leave at the exact time I wanted to (while having to wait for the other cars to be moved) would really annoy me.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 08/03/2022 07:58

I wouldn’t like it. I get claustrophobic on behalf of the car if I’m parked in.

sillysmiles · 14/03/2022 13:22

It would depend on how much extra parking somewhere else would cost. You are paying less because it is a little inconvenient - only you can decide if that convenience is worth paying more for - and if you can afford it.
If you do need to park there again- can you ask the attendant the best place to park so the least number of cars need to be moved to get you out.
