Posting for traffic. I need a new mattress as my current one is causing me shoulder pain and back pain. I'm a side sleeper. I don't want to have to replace in 2/3 years but also can't afford a super pricey one.
Any recommendations?

IKEA. Can’t remember the name of mine but around £470 for a king size.

So comfortable and we’ve had it 4 years. It actually developed a fault a couple of months ago and they replaced it no question. They’ve got a 20 year guarantee.

Hallestad from IKEA.

I bought it after recommendations on here for a reasonably prices good mattress and it's LOVELY!

We bought medium firm King in the extra layer/thickness so up a bit in price from the basic one and it was £330 i think.

We bought it back in Nov last year and we STILL get in bed and sigh about the mattress comfiness sometimes :)

mind you our old one was proper SHITE

I’ve just bought an extra firm latex mattress. Bloody love it. Gone from waking up with lower back pain so bad I struggled to put my pants on, to nothing at all.

I’m a front and side sleeper- i hadn’t realised I haven’t been sleeping on my front due to the soft old mattress and it’s so wonderful sleeping on my front again.

phishy · 07/03/2022 18:32

Why do people keeping spelling the IKEA mattress as Hallestad?! It’s Hyllestad.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 07/03/2022 18:32

I can 100% also recommend Ikea mattresses.

DH and I have a king size Hokkasen which was about £450. Sprung with a foam topper - genuinely the most comfy bed I've ever slept in.

Kids have the much cheaper Hamarvik which is just sprung - also comfy but not as good as the next one up which has more springs.

Also have personally had to use the 10 year guarantee they have and it was great - for some reason the mattress edge started to collapse and we got the mattress replaced quickly and easily.

We all have the medium firm, we're all side sleepers.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 07/03/2022 18:34

@Sexnotgender I think you must have the same one as me, I remember ours was about the same price. Bloody lovely innit?!

Oomph · 07/03/2022 18:36

We got a Casper, had it for 5 years and am still delighted with it

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 07/03/2022 18:36

I also got a massive deal on a Dreams mattress a few years ago, but tbh I wouldn't do that again unless I could try it out first. We got ours super cheap because the shop was shutting down (and only replaced it as we got a bigger bed)

FangsForTheMemory · 07/03/2022 18:37

Eve memory foam. I love it. I bought a wool duvet and rarely overheat.

Cheshirecatwoman · 07/03/2022 18:38

What type of mattress doesn’t make you overheat?

Sunshineandrainbow · 07/03/2022 18:40

I have just bought a sleepsoul matresss.

Panda bamboo toppers are also good

Thehop · 07/03/2022 18:42

@MotherAbigail I would LOVE to k ow the store please!

grey12 · 07/03/2022 18:45

IKEA pricey but not the most
expensive (don't known the name) was very good!! Medium. Firm is not good for side sleepers

spacehardware · 07/03/2022 18:45

The premier inn hypnos divan, mattress and pillows. We have linenbundle bed linen and a duck/goose down duvet

I love my bed so so much

TatianaBis · 07/03/2022 18:46

Millbrook pocket sprung, very comfortable.

I hate memory foam anything, why would you want a bed or pillow in the shape of your last position?

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 07/03/2022 19:01

@TatianaBis do you know what, I completely agree with you - except I bought a memory foam pillow and it is INSANELY comfy. It's a Panda brand one, I love it. I'm a terribly restless sleeper but this really helps.

CoffeeFirstPlease · 07/03/2022 19:30

Thank you all so much for the recommendations I will do some research on them all! I will also take a trip to IKEA and try them out as it's very close and seem to be quite popular

Have a look at the John Ryan by design website. Even if you can’t afford them they have some great info on that to look out for / avoid in their FAQs. And I stumbled on a right bargain in their clearance section (supposedly marked but I couldn’t find anything wrong with it) x

StubbleTurnips · 07/03/2022 19:54

We’ve used the brilliant JRbyDesign mattresses, not cheap but you can get them in the outlet part of the website

Loads of details on there too.

@lookingforjobinspiration

Don't underestimate the power of a great mattress topper! I got a new memory foam mattress and hated it, it massively exacerbated my back and shoulder problems, then bought a £40 topper from John Lewis and it's like a different bed. Back and shoulder problems almost gone, and I sleep so much better!
Horses for courses. The first and last (never again) mattress topper I bought made me sweat like Prince Andrew.
Dontlickthetrolley · 07/03/2022 22:10

Whatever you pick check their returns policy. I bought an Emma during lockdown and hated it, had 200 night trial so returned no problem. Then bought one from Dreams, it was a lot more expensive and awful, a 10 minute trial on something you will spend so much time on and their returns policy is shocking. Luckily I had a memory foam topper that sorted the mattress out, but I cried for the first 2 weeks as I was so tired!!!
