Leaving odd seats empty on planes

I actually didn’t think it allowed you to do this (leave a single window seat of the middle seat of three)
Am I being unreasonable to this leaving single seats like this all over the plane shouldn't be allowed?

@JustLyra having the aisle seat free leaves a lot more options for another couple / family ie, directly across the aisle, in front / behind etc. The window seat really isolates a child alone.

@purplesequins

I know a couple who buy all three seats - that’s what you should do if you want a whole row.

they will then be very pissed off when the no-show seat is sold on.

TUI give you the option to do this on their FAQ, says book your seat in your package and then call us to book a seat only and link them to ensure they are together!

@Sportslady44

It's all a con to get money from you. Plane travel isn't like it usedto be. One price would get you a seat and your case and a meal
Is it a con or is it giving people different options?! I can’t stand the food so would never pay for it. Don’t always need a case so wouldn’t pay for that either. Could keep it inclusive and put prices up for everyone?

It does, but that’s not the problem of the people booking.

For example if I book a window and middle and need to be up 3/4 times during a short flight with DD I’m going to get grief from the aisle person. She may look old enough to sit across the aisle, but she can’t.

People should be able to book what they need and want. Unfortunately booking/picking later means you have less choice. That’s just the way of the world.

And i say that as someone who has to book travel to hospital appointments often - which often involves last minute flights because of the cost of trains.

If people have to pay to pick seats then there should be no restrictions beyond safety ones.
@FantasticFebruary, it wasn’t my post but I assume because she didn’t want him sat alone past two adults, having to shout past them to ask an adult for something etc.
@FawnFrenchieMum

I know it wasn't your post, that's why I @JustLyra whose post it was.

She said He’s only 10 so I didn’t want him in at the window

I don't think it has anything to do with shouting over.

FawnFrenchieMum · 07/03/2022 17:28

@JustLyra fair enough Hmm I think it does.

Hopefully she’ll pop back and put us out of our misery!

@Scianel see I don't think there's an issue with that then, you sound very considerate. I agree that people paying for their seats should be able to choose what seats they like whether that's aisle and window as a couple or not, as long as they're then considerate of the person in the middle of them which it sounds like you are

JustLyra · 07/03/2022 22:04

@FantasticFebruary

Why??

He's not going to fall out!

Most kids love window seats!! Thus big kid still does!!

Yes that’s obviously my fear… Hmm

Because he’d just turned 10, he was at the time a shy kid who’s struggle to interrupt strangers, and we were flying to Mexico so it wasn’t just an hour flight. I didn’t want him the other side of two adults and a baby from the rest of us.

JaceLancs · 07/03/2022 22:47

I rarely book plane seats due to extra cost - if I’m travelling alone - I don’t mind where I sit - away at moment and travelled here in window seat - just done my return check in and been allocated aisle
If it’s under a 5 hour flight and im travelling with DP or adult DC we don’t mind not sitting together - allows me to read or doze in peace
If im travelling with DD the only complication is drinks packages - I’ll order and say please send second drink to lady in seat xx

Rolothecat · 09/03/2022 23:26

I booked with TUI and they wouldn’t allow me to just book aisle and middle, I had to book window and middle. Jet2 let you choose whichever you like
