To not go in tomorrow?

ChocolateIsAlwaysTheAnswer · 06/03/2022 13:49

I work in a nursery. Last Sunday I came down with a horrible cold so did not go in Monday. Went in Tuesday but felt really rough. Then had annual leave up till now. Last night I was up till 2AM coughing and still feel really rough. We are so short staffed but I can't speak a few words without coughing and feel so run down. The thought of doing a 10 hr shift with all the physical energy it takes makes me want to cry. I have lupus so am on immunosuppression medication which means infections can be prolonged.
Aibu to not go in tomorrow?

No, don't. If you're too ill to work, you're too ill to work.

whysoserious123 · 06/03/2022 14:22

You are ill, don't go to work. The end

KylieCharlene · 06/03/2022 14:45

Well, you can't go if you're I'll can you.
I'd however be worry about being seen as unreliable. Especially working in a setting like a nursery where staffing levels are very important.

KylieCharlene · 06/03/2022 14:46

*ill

twominutesmore · 06/03/2022 14:53

So you had last Monday off and now need this Monday off too?

If you are rarely ill nobody will bat an eyelid.

If you are often off, this sort of thing starts to make you unreliable. Personally I would not have a day off for a cough or cold.

CagneyNYPD1 · 06/03/2022 14:55

Are you able to do a PCR?

Daisy4569 · 06/03/2022 14:56

As a parent I wouldn’t thank you for passing your cold on to my child! Have the day off and recover. Rushing back helps nobody

shivawn · 06/03/2022 14:58

It sucks that you're short staffed but if you're sick don't go in. If you can't speak a few words without coughing then you're too sick to work and be around other people.

ChocolateIsAlwaysTheAnswer · 06/03/2022 15:17

Obviously if it was just a few sniffles then I would go in but with this my throat is sore, coughing all the time, headache, no energy etc. I will be expected to be cleaning, rushing around all day and speaking the whole time. Just can't see it happening especially as it's as I say a 10 hour shift.

Have you had a covid test?

Squaffle · 06/03/2022 15:22

Have you got any lateral flows at home? I felt like that when I have covid and also have an autoimmune condition… better do a test to rule that out first and if it’s negative just have an early night, see how you feel in the morning and decide then. Hope you feel better soon Flowers

Psychologika · 06/03/2022 15:22

Really sounds like covid

OhMygodddd · 06/03/2022 15:22

In some places if you don’t go in the day after annual leave, the annual leave doesn’t get paid and your just paid sick pay instead and not for the first 5/7 days, so check that won’t happen to you first before you take a day off after annual leave

Squaffle · 06/03/2022 15:22

*had covid

TrooBloo · 06/03/2022 15:22

Sounds like covid to me, but even if it’s not, you’re not well so of course you don’t go in.

Have you tested for Covid? This sounds like all the symptoms. Just say to work that you think you have Covid & need to stay home then keep testing

Working a physical job (& that’s what it is) while you are ill won’t help you recover

Sounds exactly like what I had last week. Was ill for over a week. Very flu like. Was Covid.
DogsAndGin · 06/03/2022 16:05

Take it easy OP Flowers Brew Cake

Natty13 · 06/03/2022 16:08

If you went in sick and gave whatever it is to my child I would be raging.

Stay off, take care of yourself, drink plenty fluids and I hope you feel better soon Flowers

KindlyKanga · 06/03/2022 16:08

Might be covid tbh if it's going on this long

SarahProblem · 06/03/2022 16:22

Have you been I'll throughout your annual leave? If so you should have changed your AL to sickness. If you've had AL between they may class this as two separate instances of sickness does that cause an issue with your sickness record and policy ?

Kanaloa · 06/03/2022 16:24

I would stay home as you’re not well. However I have worked in nurseries and I know what it’s like so I sympathise with your stress.

Lou98 · 06/03/2022 16:27

It's obviously not ideal with having last Monday off and then the annual leave but it can't be helped, you didn't choose to be ill.

As a parent with a child in nursery, I would rather you stayed off than passed it on.

Hope you're feeling better soon OP!

Did you miss the part about having lupus?

Squidinkk · 06/03/2022 16:58

I wouldn't thank you for going in while you're that sick and passing it onto my child. Stay off until you feel better.
