Hygiene rating when eating out

Myself and DH went out for Chinese tonight . Large restaurant speciality in seafood although not a big lover of oysters ect the other part of menu we enjoy .

DH always had work Xmas dos there , that’s how we found out about it , not been since covid but the reviews always great . Anyway walked in tonight been looking forward to it all week ..noticed green sticker on window out of 5 it was 2 (unsatisfactory) and it just put me off had inspection November 21 , we were shown to table, as we sat down I did really think about leaving but DH would of thought I was overreacting and the place was packed so I stayed . He was shocked as it’s always be so highly spoke off .

Home now and keep thinking I’m going to come down with food poisoning, points online were how food is stored , reheated, pest control cleanliness of dining needs improvement. I know we have probably had takeaways much worse I don’t go round checking scores . Seems since covid after reading reviews it’s gone down a bit although still high score on trip advisor.

Would you feel ok with a 2 out of 5 ? It’s also more expensive then ones closer to us so just feel a bit disappointed.

I'm surprised they displayed that as they don't have to.

But no I wouldn't have eaten there. I used to work somewhere that had a small cafe attached that was open to the public and honestly, getting 5 stars was really really simple.

YANBU
I have had a good hygiene inspection and it's easy to get 5 stars. I don't eat anywhere with fewer

Meh. Couldn’t get worked up I’m afraid. If you’ve eaten there loads before without incident u would be inclined to carry on. Especially since a lot of the hygiene rating is based on things such as labelled dates on opened bars, record keeping of fridge temp etc. doesn’t necessarily mean it’s dirty.

Sallydimebar · 05/03/2022 23:46

Hmm I should of left, didn’t eat any of the prawns! like there was over 80 people they obv haven’t seen it or not bothered.

The money they charge I can’t see how it’s not a priority or doable.

I think it depends where you are. In Wales I think the rating needs to be displayed.
ScribblingPixie · 05/03/2022 23:50

Chances are they'll be trying really hard to follow instructions to improve so they can up their rating. Probably fine.

Sallydimebar · 05/03/2022 23:51

Yes@ScribblingPixie that did give me a little comfort.

I have literally just got home from a restaurant with a 5 star hygiene rating proudly displayed on the door. As dh was paying the bill I glanced over his shoulder and noticed a waiter sneezing into his hands before picking up plates of food from the kitchen galley area Confused sometimes think ignorance is bliss - shudder to think what he does out of sight of the diners!

ScribblingPixie · 05/03/2022 23:57

Also, have a tot of brandy! A friend swore it kept her free of food poisoning all round India. There is a bit of evidence for alcohol keeping it at bay apparently.

Sallydimebar · 06/03/2022 00:10

@TellySavalashairbrush yes very true can’t get too worked up over it I suppose.

Thanks for the tip @ScribblingPixie
