Just that. I'm torn really as not sure if I will discriminated against or not? My current employers know and are very supportive. I didn't tell them initially though :( I mainly suffer with generalised anxiety.

I wouldn’t initially. But would disclose after I had been there for a while.

TellMeMoreHellebore · 04/03/2022 18:44

not sure anyone can support you or prevent your anxiety if they don't know it exists

do you think you will need support in the workplace?

Againstmachine · 04/03/2022 21:41

I think you would be discriminated against so don't.

The biggest employers who bang a out mental health in my experience are last to care.

Fullnessmind · 05/03/2022 19:05

Thanks so much. I do think they will discriminate unfortunately :(

Sadly I wouldn't.

XenoBitch · 05/03/2022 19:07

Where on an application form are you expected to disclose mental health difficulties? I thought this sort of stuff was for the eyes of Occupational Health departments only.

ThreeRingCircus · 05/03/2022 19:10

You'd normally be asked on a confidential medical form although at my workplace that is completed after a candidate has been offered a job rather than as part of the general application.... I think being asked as part of the application process is quite unusual.

Canigooutyet · 05/03/2022 19:16

I did and still got the job. Place was desperate.
Thankfully I did though as eventually I couldn't 'contain' it. One of the managers made a massive issue about it and that it it was disclosed I wouldn't have been given the job. Then started rumours that I had lied. My application was still on file and showed clearly I had mentioned all my health issues.
Not unsurprising to know that it was that manager who made things had hence I couldn't control my mh!

It is on the application form, asking if I have a disability, including mental health

Definition of disability under the Equality Act 2010

You’re disabled under the Equality Act 2010 if you have a physical or mental impairment that has a ‘substantial’ and ‘long-term’ negative effect on your ability to do normal daily activities.

From what you've said, your anxiety is not a disability. Smile

lomoloko · 07/03/2022 07:46

Not until you've got the job.

DoNotTouchTheWater · 07/03/2022 07:48

Is that the equalities monitoring form? That should be kept separate to the rest of the application.

asmuchuseas · 07/03/2022 07:49

I have generalised anxiety too and didn't disclose it. They found out when they requested references and I had to tell them. It Didn't stop them offering me the job though.

Orchidsonthetable · 07/03/2022 08:10

Is your anxiety at such a level you’d be considered disabled op?
