My DC was invited to a party 45 minutes drive away today by one of his school friends, AIBU to think that's just a bit to far? Would you travel?

I have done when it was a really small party of close friends, but not whole class. If we were doing something special. But if I could offer lifts I would do that.

Most things seem to take about 30 mins round here because of the traffic!

OutdoorType · 04/03/2022 18:48

If I could get there reasonably easily and my DC wanted to go, yes.

sunshineandshowers40 · 04/03/2022 18:54

If mine wanted to go, I would get them there but would try and share with another parent so only do drop off or pick up. If parties are further away quite often we drop at party child's house and the parents take the children in a couple of cars and we collect from their house.

I'm rural and 45 mins doesn't seem bad. All softly parties we've ever been to have been further than that.

Stompythedinosaur · 04/03/2022 18:58

*softplay

I think travelling is just part of living rurally tbh.

Vanellopee · 04/03/2022 19:01

45 mins doesn’t seem very far tbh.

Dizzyhedgehog · 04/03/2022 19:08

Not that unusual where we live. DS's school is a 40-minute drive away (in rush hour traffic...it's 20 minutes without traffic), so his friends can live a bit further away.

1forAll74 · 04/03/2022 19:26

I wouldn't do it for little children, I used to do as such for teenagers though for more grown up parties and events etc.

TacoCats · 04/03/2022 19:51

@hangrylady yep not many people drive it's a poverty area.

Depends on the age of the children and length of time of the activity.

Trudij123 · 04/03/2022 19:59

I would, but as others - my nearest big supermarket is 40 minutes away and to go into Exeter is 45 minutes from me, so it’s fairly normal for me. A pool with all kinds of stuff like that OP? I’d definitely take mine - sounds great!

TheYearOfSmallThings · 04/03/2022 20:00

We've travelled from East London down to Diggerland in Medway, Kent. That took ages, but it was totally worth it as it turns out I am really good at digging with a JCB.

BeHappy91818 · 04/03/2022 20:01

I don’t think 45 mins is that far.
Iv travelled that far.

Darbs76 · 04/03/2022 20:01

It’s a bit far: even for me who lives in the south (I grew up in the north and no-one would dream of travelling further than 15 mins up there from the people I know)

MajorCarolDanvers · 04/03/2022 20:02

I've taken my children to parties that far away. Its a pain as you then have to find something to entertain yourself with during the party. But hey ho.

Liveandkicking · 04/03/2022 20:03

Family or family friends no problem. School friends - probably max 20mins.

StarsAndSugarlumps · 04/03/2022 20:05

Pretty normal here. Everyone would usually carshare though - so one parent would take 3-4 kids, including usually both parents of the birthday child taking a car full each. It meant there were only usually 3-4 other cars going. Will you not be doing that?

Nope, no offer what so ever.

It's just a pity as my son will have to miss out as I can't drive that far. Thanks for the opinions ladies (and gents if there's any here!)

45 mins is really not that far to stop your child from missing out if they want to go,

chickywoo · 04/03/2022 20:24

How many miles? Is 45 min drive About 50 miles?

gogohm · 04/03/2022 20:31

About 45 mins - can take that long to cross the city. School is specialist and covered the whole city
