What is happening to my hands?!

Posting for traffic but please help.

For 6 months I have had peeling, cracked skin on one of my hands. I couldn't remember how it happened except that it was on one finger and then spread to the others I thought maybe I burnt them or touched something.

I have tried ALL of the good intensive creams (Working hands, Neutrageana Swiss formula, Garnier intensive, Vaseline). And only Garnier seems to keep them from cracking and bleeding but not healing. I also have to apply all day long or they will bleed.

I've also said fuck it maybe its the creams and went cold turkey. Which caused them to crack all over. I've also worn gloves to bed with cream and tried using differnt soaps and even not using soap as often too.

Then today I felt a blister type pain on my other hand and saw a small red sore. And then I remembered how it began on my first hand.

Please help. The skin is very thin and I cannot open things with one hand. I'm scared for the other. Its very hard to get a GP appointment.

I mean medications for other conditions, not for your skin...

MiskyT · 03/03/2022 19:54

I had exactly this a few years ago. Nothing worked, I tried lots of creams and ointments prescribed by GP and pharmacists. GP and Dermatologist said it was eczema but none of their remedies worked till I was given steroid tablets that calmed the inflammation and then let the creams and ointments work. The tablets felt like a life saver, I was proper depressed by the pain and itching. I still use Dermovate now and again but those 6 months or so were so bad. One Dermatologist said I would suffer every summer and another one said I would suffer every winter. I'm pleased to say they were both wrong. Good luck, and see if your GP will give you steroid tablets.

Get bloods done. I was shocked at what symptoms were alleviated when I had vitamin deficiency. I'm on injections now.

Cryalot2 · 03/03/2022 19:56

Does its tingle? Is it worse when cold?
If so possible raynauds. If not then a type of psoriasis.
Speak to your pharmacist.

FionnulaTheCooler · 03/03/2022 19:56

Have you been using a lot of hand sanitiser OP? It has a similar effect on my skin.

CaMePlaitPas · 03/03/2022 19:57

Are you a cleaner OP? Or work with food? This looks chemical.

Wbeezer · 03/03/2022 20:05

This is the best stuff for hands I have found, it is a long lasting silicon based barrier cream, it traps moisture in the skin and keeps irritants out, and I say that as someone who works in a soap and hand cream factory and was filling bottles of handcream today!
By the way pompholyx blisters are filled with clear fluid not pus.
Your skin does look like dermatitis or excema so worth checking in with a GP or nurse practitioner.

TheRealityCheque · 03/03/2022 20:05

100% psoriasis. I've got exactly the same and just had it confirmed my a dermatologist.
Mine all started two weeks after my second Covid Vaccination and my consultant said this timeline fits perfectly with psoriasis being an autoimmune issue which vaccinations can often trigger.

Bad news is it's practically impossible to get rid of - you need referral to a dermatologist but your GP will fob you off with various steroid creams for up to a year that will do nothing.

Good luck.

Daeng it my pic didn't work, "Gloves in a Bottle" is what i was talking about

mamma2013 · 03/03/2022 20:08

I've got the same on my feet, it gets so itchy and painful I could easily rip my skin off. I havent found a cure except keeping them cool and dry helps and stress is what brings it out. Good luck xx

Dontreadtoomuchintothis · 03/03/2022 20:11

Hi it looks and sounds a lot like the dermatitis I had a few years back. I only had it on a small patch of my palm, tiny itchy blisters. Betnovate was the only thing that worked for me, moisturiser didn't get rid of the blisters at all. I hope you get sorted, mine hasn't returned so hopefully it's a one-off.

Anonymous48 · 03/03/2022 20:12

Are your nails affected at all? If so it's probably psoriasis, not excema.

nopuppiesallowed · 03/03/2022 20:19

Check out 'dermatitis herpetiformis'.....(I think that's how you spell it)..My.mum had.it a d one of my brothers has it.

HTruffle · 03/03/2022 20:19

Not sure but could it be Raynauds causing dryness?

HTruffle · 03/03/2022 20:21

It looks like scleroderma which I think may be related to raynauds.

BulletTrain · 03/03/2022 20:21

My mum has that and her is psoriasis.

picklemewalnuts · 03/03/2022 20:21

Are you stressed? That can really kick eczema off!

WaltzingToWalsingham · 03/03/2022 20:22

Oh gosh, I had that a couple of years ago. My hands were so sore and uncomfortable, and the skin between the cracks was weirdly stiff - i couldn't pick up small items like needles.

I didnt actually see a GP so I don't know what caused it, but it went away of it's own accord and my hands are fine now. I swear by the Body Shop's Hemp hand cream. I put it on every night before bed and it keeps my hands beautifully soft - something that I wouldn't have believed possible a year ago.

Jobseeker19 · 03/03/2022 20:24

Hi, I'm not on medication just multi vits. I'm a nursery worker and do you antibacterial sprays but have done for years.

PragmaticWench · 03/03/2022 20:24

That's pompholyx eczema.

Merlin16 · 03/03/2022 20:32

Try sudocrem on the cracked skin, it's really good at soothing and healing when I have had cracked and bleeding hands.

INeedNewShoes · 03/03/2022 20:36

Fungal skin infections can present like this.

Could be worth trying daktacort or similar but definitely ask a pharmacist - they are very knowledgable about this stuff

CanIPleaseHaveOne · 03/03/2022 20:43

Take calcium and it will go away.

Intransigentcat · 03/03/2022 20:44

Looks very similar to my eczema. I use dermalex repair and restore and find it very effective.

Weirdly mine seems to be triggered by warm weather, it brings the blisters up. I usually start with it on holiday.

If I accidentally scratch a blister and pop it, it's very painful.

Definitely worth getting it properly diagnosed.

TheSunIsStillShining · 03/03/2022 20:46

looks like ekczema. apart from steroid creme 2 others have worked for me> Eucerin / specific to ekczema and Laroche Posay - with uritea if i remember correctly.
what works for me: once under control, symptoms gone.... first sign of it i put on steroid creme. stops it getting worse.
(I hate creams on my hands)
