Ordering product online and they had an option to tip!

WTAF

Just a normal product that will arrive in about a week but popped up with option to tip the company 10% for their service.

Is this now a thing?

What next?

Lolz!

Yeah that's a bit outrageous for U.K. (if you are U.K.?) as it isnt the norm when ordering a product online isn't a "good service tipping situation" and it makes me think rather than organise a company delivery they are underpaying individuals to deliver!

Usually you only tip if it's a takeaway food delivery in U.K. or your waiter/waitress at a restaurant .

Although I notice Deliveroo has that option for tips "for the driver" even when ordering online food shopping (which is far more expensive than usual cost/ already had delivery fees and service charge - but comes quickly within a few hours) as it's done by individuals contracted to do so, not a delivery company.

Lockdown has slightly changed how we do things when we were all stuck in - but nope I wouldn't tip a delivery company for products ordered online.

Exactly!

Yes, UK based from a UK company. I imagine they don't do the delivery and leave that for Hermes or Royal Mail etc so tip isn't even for delivery. It's as a thank you in general for doing your job.

Just bizarre.

Do all professions expect a tip now?

its a way to make more money, thats it, when you buy anything you should be getting the best service anyway, TIP means to ensure promptness, used back in the old days to ensure youd get served at a pub quickly, this doesn't exactly apply to an online business probably using royal mail, frankly its insulting that they want you to pay more for service you should be getting anyway, this is why only america has trillion dollar companies, they know how to squeeze our wallets and purses and yes our companies are jumping on the band wagon too

Person123456 · 04/03/2022 05:09

Another thing about online tipping is the company usually keeps it all to themselves, the employees dont see any of it, its more like an optional service fee than a tip really

Ha. We must have bought from the same company. I noticed the same thing and thought 'what the heck?'
I did not tip. I wonder if many people do...

i don't on principle, if the item or whatever costs more it should e included in the price, Americans only do it because of the $2 minimum wage or whatever it is, its just pure greed

"is this now a thing"

Clearly not, as you've noticed it once.

"Do all professionals expect..."

Clearly not, as you've noticed it once.

I buy everything online, literally. Never noticed it.

No, you probably bought from two companies that use the same online shopping software to power the sales part of their website. This has come up before. Some piece of software has a checkbox when setting it up that allows the tipping option. They probably didn't notice.
