To consider Swimming lessons for a 27 month old

Torn between attending a small class in my local area or a block of private 1-2-1 with a tutor I know. I can’t swim myself and I’m thinking about ttc - so i thought it might before might be useful before trying to manage another pregnancy/newborn etc. I’ve seen some say it’s pointless before the age of 3, but I want them to learn some water safety more than anything. Any advice welcome .

My dd went to council run classes at our local pool from 6 months to 7yo, we've stopped for a bit as have just moved. She has always loved it, and starting early definitely helped her feel confident in the water. She couldn't swim until she was about 4/5 though, and always made most progress during a week on holiday in the summer as we're always somewhere warm with a pool/sea.

Realistically it would be far more worthwhile you learning to swim, far more important that you can instil confidence and rescue them if needed.

My daughter loves swimming mostly because I love swimming and am confident in and around water. We go to family fun sessions together as well, rather than making it all about lessons.

Definitely not wasted before 3. My eldest was swimming at 3 - he's been swimming since he was 5 months. He's now 6 and swimming 25m. I've just started lessons with my newborn and hoping he'll be a strong swimming by a similar age

Babies can't swim, but you can get them used to putting their faces in the water, blowing bubbles and associating arm and leg movements with moving in thr water. And as others have said, confidence is key
