To confront bus pusher in?

EzzieB · 02/03/2022 17:32

There's not much of a queue at my city centre bus stop at night but once the bus pulls in, everyone forms a queue more or less. This one woman though seems to come out of nowhere and just brazenly walks past people queueing and puts herself right at the front. I want to say something to her. We all get a seat but it's the principle and lack of manners. Am I just being petty?

@MajorCarolDanvers

Nothing wrong with saying - excuse but there is a queue you know.

Everyone else will inwardly cheer you on.

They really will. If there something that makes Brits murderous, it’s queue jumping, but nobody wants to say so, so the simmering becomes unbearable.
Holothane · 02/03/2022 18:21

Don’t care who they are if they push in I’ll tel them doesn’t happen often now. In London dreadful especially commuting times.

DesdemonaDryEyes · 02/03/2022 18:22

Anyone British knows the queueing protocol.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 02/03/2022 18:23

I confronted one today. It was a queue at the hospital I work at, I have to queue along with the patients to get a pass key to my clinic and this guy goes right to the front and in front of me.
I said, "Do you think your time is more important than ours, no? Then get to the back of the queue and wait like everyone else".
He was a taxi driver here to pick someone up so hardly life saving emergency.

x2boys · 02/03/2022 18:27

If it's only a bit of queue and everyone gets Sears I really wouldn't be that bothered tbh
There was a time when I was in a pound shop with dh and the kids a few years ago it was a new years eve,and the queue was round the shop ,one women did try to just go to front ,the shop assistant was going to serve her ,but the whole queue told her to get to the back that was quite amusing ,I think she walked out 🤣

KatherineJaneway · 02/03/2022 18:27

People know who arrived after them and who was already there when they arrived.

My local bus stop serves 10 buses. You have no idea who wants which bus, so the bus pulls in you walk towards the bus. You can't queue unless it is very quiet.

Pedalpushers · 02/03/2022 18:30

Yeah in London queueing for a bus is far less of a thing.

Rather than confronting, I find uncomfortably staring at people when they do something wrong very effective. If you confront they think you're the bad guy, if you stare you make them nervous.

WouldIwasShookspeared · 02/03/2022 18:35

Not unless you are willing to get abuse.
The type of people who lack manners are the type who will get abusive when it's pointed out

@TheOccupier

Do people outside London still queue at bus stops then? How quaint!
Of course we do. Generally the rest of the country isn’t a no go area that’s turned into an absolute shit hole
Belledan1 · 02/03/2022 18:42

What drives me mad is when it is obvious one big queue for say 3 tills but some dick thinks can go to an individual one and push in.

Coyoacan · 02/03/2022 18:43

It isn't how we normally work here in the UK

I am curious, what nationalities do not queue?

ShowOfHands · 02/03/2022 18:46

We don't have buses round these here parts. Only horses and carts what we uses for shifting grains. I don't mind meself a queue as I gets to be hearing all the gossip.
ALongHardWinter · 02/03/2022 18:46

Unfortunately,I witness this on a regular basis. I'm visibly disabled,in that I use walking sticks,yet some people still think it's fine to barge in front of me and nab the last empty seat on the bus. Makes me furious.

Want2beme · 02/03/2022 18:47

When I left London, nearly 20 years ago, people still queued. First visit back there after several years, I was so surprised to see people no longer queue. It made me feel melancholy.

Momicrone · 02/03/2022 18:50

It's q bit like waiting at a bar, no-one queues but you hope everyone has a sense of who is who!

YouCantTourniquetTheTaint · 02/03/2022 18:50

I'd say and have said "er, excuse me there's a queue" I either get looked at like I've just had a dump on the middle of the Christmas dinner table, mid meal, or get a shrug and whatever. I've not got into a slanging match yet.

For some reason people jumping the queue, gives me the absolute rage. But if I say something it releases that rage. I have got ADHD with a lack of impulse control, so I do tend to blurt things out Blush

Comtesse · 02/03/2022 19:01

Nothing wrong with a brisk “oi there is a queue” out loud….

Teaforme123 · 02/03/2022 19:02

I would just say 'Theres a queue you know?!' see what she says. She probably won't care though.

HappydaysArehere · 02/03/2022 19:21

Thinking back in time to when bus queues were always formed in a proper manner and then noticed when going abroad that this wasn’t the case. Soon after this erratic type of queuing appeared to transfer itself to the UK. However, a lot of people are behaving in a respectful manner so all is not lost.

Gizacluethen · 02/03/2022 19:27

@NotImpossible

Is there any chance that this person was actually there early but just chose to wait a little further away? I used to sit and wait when I arrived early for a bus (I was usually there before anyone else due to awkward timings); the queuers seemed to prefer to stand (only a few feet away - it was clear which bus we were all there for) so they always got on first. I usually just got on last as there was plently of room but I can imagine soneone else in my position claiming 'their' place when the bus arrived!

(And I often felt a bit disgruntled about it GrinGrinGrin)

Ugh I have this at the vets. We have to queue outside all at the same time in a morning while they get all the pets in for the day. My dog is reactive so I have to wait further back. I always get there first but just always get missed. Last time we were waiting outside for an hour! I kept saying but they just kept letting in the person closest to the door!
KindlyKanga · 02/03/2022 19:29

@Cherrysoup

Dunno, it would also give me the rage, but my dh has made me think before I act-he says you don’t know the person, they might be crazy aggressive and could attack and god knows what they’re carrying. So whilst I’d definitely want to call them out, I’d be wary and probably would keep schtum.
Yes same. I have seen some people turn really nasty when called out .
Stichintime · 02/03/2022 19:29

It wouldn't bother me if there were enough seats. Queue jumping in shops etc is totally different.
