www.gov.uk/search-will-probate

If it didn’t go to probable, pretty sure I’m right in saying you can’t.

probate

As the previous poster said, you can only see if it went to probate. This can take a long time though so you may not be able to see the results for a year or more after the death.

Deaths are more than a year ago.

I know nothing about any of this, what does probate mean?

Probate gives someone (the executor) the right to deal with a dead person's estate (their money, property etc). If you search the above link, is the person you are looking for listed?

Christienne · 02/03/2022 11:19

It gives someone (an executor) the legal right to deal with an estate.

Not all estates require probate though. It depends on many things including size of the estate and whether any creditors request it (which happened when I executed an estate).

Best option would be to use the link I provided to search. If it isn’t there’s you won’t be able to find out (presuming you don’t want to talk to the executor/think they’re doing something wrong so want to verify).

On finding out what was paid out, this won't necessarily be detailed in the will. If individual bequests were made (I leave Johnny £5,000), then you'll know. But often, people don't know how much they might have when they die, so the will might state that assets are distributed by proportion (Timmy gets 50%, Tommy gets the rest).

If you need more detail, then you'll need to contact the executor, but they only have to give you that information in limited circumstances.

Gov.uk probate, will cost £1.50

Dixiechickonhols · 02/03/2022 12:38

Probate was taking ages last time I had anything to do with it. So if death only just over a year ago might still be going through probate.

I found the people I was looking for, should have the info within four weeks.
