To want these tasks completed by the cleaners?

streamee · 01/03/2022 10:59

Genuine question. Please let me know if I'm reasonable to expect these tasks to be completed?

I have cleaners for 3 hours every fortnight. (Team of 3 Molly maid cleaners for 1 hour. £84 a clean)

All hard floors vacuumed and mopped (kitchen, dining room, loo, bathroom and hallway)

All carpets vacuumed (this does generally get completed) Should they be doing under the sofa?

Dusting/polishing - the hallway mirror never gets cleaned, nor the TV. They should surely be doing this?

Kitchen - should they be doing behind stuff? Like behind the toaster and microwave? At the moment the kitchen gets a cursory wipe over.

I overheard one of the team saying she didn't know what to be getting on with to another member of the team while sat on my stairs on her phone... surely she should be busy during the hour I'm paying for?

Thanks

Cleaner here... They sound like cleaning wanna - be's..
If you want to give them another chance leave a huge list. Ask that it is ticked off as they go..
Or Ltb.
*lose the bitches.

Three hours a fortnight is not very much so it is hard to say if they should get to cleaning mirrors or pulling out the microwave without knowing how big your house is.

Ok, fair point. What about one of them struggling to find something to do?

Our rooms are fairly large, but as we've only just loved in we have barely any furniture etc, so the rooms are pretty empty and 'easy' to clean imo

Unfortunately, you need to go round every room and write a pedantic list that will make you fee unformfortable. Then leave that out.

They should be doing those things, yes.

Totalwasteofpaper · 01/03/2022 11:19

Yanbu.
As my very old boss used to say if you have time to lean, you have time to clean.
they shouldn't be on their phones and dicking about particularly at that hourly rate.

But you need to be clear on what you want done.

Also how big is the house. 5 bed with 3 kids... its a bit much
4 bed with 2 adults. Perfectly fine.

Savvysix1984 · 01/03/2022 11:30

That's really expensive for 3 hours.

MyHusbandTheIdiot · 01/03/2022 11:31

That is insanely expensive..

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 01/03/2022 11:32

Yes but I find you have to repeat these things if you want them done - mention it when they arrive if you are home, or leave a note, and go back to the person who runs the show if they’re still not being done

charliebear78 · 01/03/2022 11:35

There's three of them cleaning for three hours! They should be doing all that and more.
I'm a self employed cleaner and personally don't rate agency cleaners and after talking to clients who have used agency cleaners it isn't unfounded.
I clean on my own and manage to do those sort of things weekly for a hell of a lot less!
Get rid and find a self employed cleaner who will have pride in her work.

Georgyporky · 01/03/2022 11:36

I used MM once. The supervisor made a comprehensive list before giving me an estimate.

Georgyporky · 01/03/2022 11:37

Posted too soon.
I suggest you get back to them with your complaints, especially as there is not enough work for 3 hours.

That’s £28 an hour! That ridiculously expensive. You’re being ripped off OP

No, 3 for 1 hour so 3 hours in total

They did do that. I've also emailed the office twice now saying the hallway hadn't been mopped and the downstairs loo was missed etc.

I'm getting a bit annoyed now!

£28 an hour!!?????

But unfortunately these cleaners will see only a fraction of this.
Read 'Nickled and Dimed by Barbara Ehrenreich. An eye-opener about the exploitation of cleaners by cleaning companies.

In your shoes I'd find an independent cleaner, pay her top of the going local rate, and see how you go.

cherrytreecottage · 01/03/2022 11:40

That's incredibly expensive - £28ph??

Our cleaners wouldn't move a sofa to hoover beneath on regular clean, but if we asked for this to be done once a month, it might be done in place of something else.

Without knowing the size of your house of course, it's hard to comment on whether there's time to fit all of what you want in, but given you're saying you've seen them on phones or discussing that they're unsure what to do it sounds like it's not too little time for your house size. IMO absolutely the toaster and everything that can be moved on kitchen worktops should be done and cleaned behind. The second I even touch my toaster it leaves crumbs everywhere Grin

Ours actually came with a checklist and we went through to tick off what we wanted doing weekly, monthly, quarterly etc. so defo suggest doing a list of what you want completed.

Twolostsoulsswimminginafishbow · 01/03/2022 11:41

Find an independent cleaner and offer him/her the same money. You’ll be amazed what they achieve for over £80.

How do I find one?

I would prefer the money went straight into the cleaners' pockets

OP for guidance I pay my cleaner £13 an hour. She does 8 hours a week but in that time she cleans a large (more than 4500 square foot house) with two kitchens, five bathrooms, a large mucky boot room (dogs and horses). She also tidies and she changes all bedding and puts on two loads of washing. Once a fortnight she also does the pool house which has a living room, bedroom, small kitchenette and shower room.

You’re being truly ripped off.

PrescriptionWine · 01/03/2022 11:50

I used MM pre pandemic, I was told the cleaners are properly employed, get a living wage, have set contracted hours, and pension which is why it’s more expensive than employing a self employed person. Although could of just been a line by the franchise owner!

Seems I am...

Our house is large (2100 sqft) but pretty empty and most rooms just need dusting and vacuuming.

I'm fine with the price but the sub-standard service is what I'm annoyed with

girlmom21 · 01/03/2022 11:53

That's extortionately expensive, and two cleaners should be easily able to complete that list. You're hardly asking for much.

I'd expect them to move the toaster etc for sure and properly clean.

SecretSquirrel111 · 01/03/2022 11:54

3 hours for 2100 sq foot is not a lot.

However if they’re sitting around doing nothing then there’s definitely an issue and I would complain.
