No secondary school offer ?

I have posted in secondary education as well but I'm posting here for traffic.

We applied on time, got email confirmation, put catchment school first, then another 2 sensible choices. Our LA only let you put 3 options.

We did not receive an email with school allocation this morning so we had to log into the council portal to find out our DC is on the waiting list for all three schools with no other offer of a place.

I am on hold to the council but I don't even have a reference number to check where we are on the list because it was on the email - which we didn't get.

What can I do?

Good.

(The local Sufficiency and Access team work on the number of school places. As a governor we have data up to 5 years ahead. - I was going to say I don't know ifnthey have more but we are a primary school so not possible to have any more. Lol. But they should have more for secondary. And they use this to balance places....increase and decrease pan and to build more facilities if required.

It sounds to me like your error was in the admission department with the process/software they use)

Hi
I’m in the same situation as you. My son hasn’t been offered a place in any of the three schools we’ve chosen (two of the schools are in our catchment area). I haven’t received any letters or emails exactly the same as you so I don’t even have his reference number. It’s not possible to get through to council so I will be trying tomorrow again. It’s really stressful situation and I don’t know what to do? Have you managed to speak to some?

Crockof · 03/03/2022 20:46

Does your council publish admission info like this Kat this allows you to find out if you should have been allocated a place and is an easy first place to start.

No secondary school offer ?

If you've applied they legally have to offer you a school place. I'm guessing that they have run out of places and they are waiting to hear if any of the schools will go over their numbers. You will be offered a school eventually.

All but a tiny handful of the secondaries in our area are fully or over- subscribed. And they're still building homes like crazy.

I don't know where children are going to school if their parents move house!

@KatPpp @ufucoffee

There was an admin error (apparently) and we have a space at the secondary school that my dd attends the feeder primary for.

I ended up calling a different number I found to get the reference number. Are you in the Midlands KatPpp, just wondering if it's the same authority?

Hi I’m in East Midlands, getting through to the council is almost impossible if you work 9-5. I spoke to someone but I was only told that if I’ve not received email or letter it means that my son will definitely get a place in one school out of our 3 choices. Im worried cos i can’t even appeal as the first question after clicking the appeal link is “Have you received a letter or email that your child was rejected school place “ if you press no it takes you nowhere. The guy I spoke to was not able to give me reference number, I was advised to wait.

KatPpp · 04/03/2022 20:29

@Crockof
No unfortunately there is nothing like that on our council website, in fact there is no many informations there other then how to apply or appeal. The only way to find something out is speaking to them.

Innatenvi · 06/03/2022 13:22

@KatPpp I've pm'd you - I have a strong suspicion it's the same council.
