My son turned 3 last month and has suspected ASD. He was completely non verbal but in the last couple months has started using random words (in context) and really surprised me this weekend by saying to the rain, "rain, rain, go away" Shock and counting out loud to 10. I had no idea he could count. Having a child with some challenges has truly made me a better person and every day my little boy surprises me and shows me how unique and amazing he is. Excited to see how he will progress. Just wanted to share as it's been really hard accepting my lad is a bit different. But it's going to be ok. Smile

This is brilliant. My 2.5 year also has suspected ASD. When he was two I remember telling the paediatrician I think he can count to ten, this was before he could speak. The doctor clearly thought I was nuts, but a few months later he came out with it.

So cool! Smile I've heard lots of ASD kids enjoy numbers.

My daughter is 4 in a few months and had no words up until 6 months ago, she is on the path to diagnosis too .
The other day I was reading a story to her and all of a sudden she sang twinkle twinkle little star . I have never felt a sense of pride like it but it's really down to her amazing preschool which is mainstream not a sen setting.
Shes so funny the words are so random, tonight she was jumping around with her sister after dinner shouting poppadum. It's a funny sad hopeful journey.
Good luck

Aahhh the "rain, rain go away" just melted my heart a little Smile You sound super proud and so you should be!

My teen is Autistic, definitely has his quirky little ways and we've hit a few walls through the years but he still manages to make me smile/laugh most days.
