to cook all my dogs meals?

I don't know if I am missing something so I want wisdom or advice from the crowd.

Two rescues, treated like royalty. One began being aggressive to the other (newer) dog. We hired a behaviourist, it all was linked to food. At the time we were feeding Forthglade and it isn't nutritionally complete so my dog was hungry....then aggressive.

We then found Pooch and Mutt but it will cost me £3a day to feed them which feels expensive. They're both under 10kg.

My dogs LOVE roast chicken. I bought a roast chicken, 1.9kg from Asda which was £2.80. I will roast it later, have some of the meat for my dinner, maybe DH too (he is fussy and doesn't eat much) and then boil up the meat and carcass, add rice, peas and broccoli and this could make a good 4 days worth of meals especially if I couple it with the dry food they refuse to eat unless it's with roast chicken.

Is this bonkers? Time isn't the issue, I WFH and no kids.

My worry would just be how can you be sure they’re getting a balanced diet? I would consult a vet on this (I’m suspect they would advise against it though…). If you do go ahead, I’d take them regularly for weight check to be sure they don’t lose/ gain too much.

On another note… do you know that fourth glade has two types of wet food trays? One is ‘complementary diet’ (ie needs to be supplemented with other food) and the other is ‘complete diet’.

Were you using complete diet and, if so, why do you say it’s it’s nutritionally complete?

We use fourth glade too and dog struggling to gain correct weight. That’s why I’m asking.

What youre planning on offering is nutritionally balanced for a human, but not a dog. There are many missing vitamins and minerals from home cooked diets for animals and to be honest, this can actually lead to more behavioural problems longer term.

You would be better off picking a balanced food and working more on the behaviour side of things. Encourage slow feeders, set meal times, feed seperatelt if aggression is over food etc.

I already cook for my dogs and I find it's better as you know what they are eating. I cook chicken, mince beef/pork/lamb, fish, rice, pasta, eggs, sardines, veg, grated cheese and natural yogurt. They look forward to their meals and they are never the same . I have two happy Staffies.

YANBU I boil up a batch of chopped chicken or mince in small amount of water with lid, then boil rice in the leftover broth with chopped carrot, peas etc
They eat 2 smaller meals, rather than stuffing down one meal , and have breakfast & dinner same time as us. They have about 2/3 dry food with 1/3 home cooked
