Would you send DC to nursery if they had a fever in the night ?

DC - two- woke up in the night with a fever. Have some Calpol and was OK.

Today seems fine. Usually I would not send DC to nursery in this situation. But I've got a full on day.

DC hasn't been at nursery that long, so I'm a bit of a novice at what parents do. I feel like I should keep DC off. What would / do you do ?

Thank you !

Anything goes at our school! One of my kids friends was unwell and sick yesterday and the mum sent him today, because he's fine now. And apparently teacher said that was OK too! I give up.
If he was sick in the morning and monitored all day why wouldn't she? Kids get sick for different reasons and there's a difference in symptoms too, not every illness needs to be cleared as if it's a bug or covid!

@KindlyKanga

That sounds a lot like when my DC first got covid. So no.
Everything sounds a lot like covid

@Darbs76

Yes I did in the past because my kids were always getting fevers with teething etc, and if I kept them off everytime I’d have never got any work done. If your full on day means paid work send him in, if you mean meeting friends etc then no, keep him home
Haha of course it's paid work. I also have a lot of work being done at my house, so various tradespeople in and out all week.

@KindlyKanga May I ask what happened after the stage of the illness I've described ? Hope all was ok !

Sure no worries it was nowhere near as bad as I'd feared. Lots of loose stools. Vomiting. That only lasted about 2 days and they were alright in themselves trying to play and stuff. Then a cough but after those 2 days it wasn't worse than anything else they've ever had. I guess it varies by person though.

Your nursery will be grateful if you keep them home and not risk passing something to the other children and staff. Nursery is busy and stimulating and can be exhausting for little ones if they are feeling poorly. Staff won't be able to give the same attention as you could if your child does go down hill again and will likely call you anyway to collect.

We often have parents say they were unwell but now seem fine and a couple hours in its clear they aren't fine but now all the other children have been exposed to the illness too.

If only all parents were so considerate, our children wouldn't be ill as much !

Ours are happy to take them a little under the weather so long as they're ok in themselves, so I'd do an LFT (so glad we don't have to PCR them any more, lost so many days to that) and send them in, and let the nursery know. Ours would give a dose of Calpol if they need it so I'd be crossing my fingers I'd get the day.

ArtichokeAardvark · 01/03/2022 07:19

Our nursery have a 24 hour fever free policy - ie, child has to have had a normal temperature for 24 hours before they can come back in. It's a pain, but sensible.

Yeah definitely not sending DC to nursery.

No fever, but teary at small things. So obviously not feeling well. I just told dog off for something and slightly raised my voice to day no and DC in tears and distraught. So not feeling well. Sad

No because you had to give your child calpol.
