Just that really. Been thinking about getting some for a while and with electric rises surely it's a good move?

Solar in the U.K. does work but it never really operates at its full potential. This might not be a problem as long as you are getting enough electricity for your own needs.

There is a problem with sourcing panels, the cheapest ones from China are made using Uighar forced labour, so you may want to look out for that.

The lithium ion batteries have been raising a lot of safety concerns and there have been cases of them exploding and catching fire, which is then very difficult to put out. I haven't heard of any cases here, but many experts are worried.

All things to check carefully before you commit.

Hi OP - saw this and thought of you!

As to recommendations for installers, it really depends on where you are. We used Cambridge Solar and they were great, but no good to you if you're miles away!

Just to update I'm the OP but NC frequently. I've done lots of research and chasing quotes since I posted this.

My research shows now with batteries to store energy and electric vehicles, as well as the ever increasing cost of energy solar is a good investment. Also my DH has since changed to wfh permanently.

I just got my first quote after 6 months of hounding companies. Wish I'd started much much earlier!

get a quote from Power- Aid Limited. He is my a relative of mine and totally trust worthy. He had won awards for his company in Africa which he has now left the locals to run and he is back here in UK.
We got 10 panels and 2 batteries and with no VAT ( plus family rate of extra 10% off) we paid about£9,000. First month we had a message from energy company dealing we need to significantly reduce our direct debit. You have to get used to using your post whilst the sun shines so leave dishwasher to the morning and laundry etc. In the evening, the batteries then power the laptops/ desktop/ TV etc
My husband had air con unit going all day on his office and costing him nothing in power when it was so hot. He was very excited about that. He reckons were will be paid off in 5 years if prices stay high . It remains to be seen what our winter bills will be like but with a summer like this one and the amount of extra that we sell back, I would be surprised if we are paying anything at all.
