I don't. But I'm a bit pessimistic on these things so what do I know Wink

Yanbu for no, high prices are here to stay
Yabu for yes, this is temporary.

I don't expect them to come down to anywhere close to where they were before.

Higher prices are here to stay

nordica · 27/02/2022 10:59

Once they go up they never seem to come down again.

MrsSkylerWhite · 27/02/2022 10:59

No. Russia has wiped out any chance of that.

BeaAggressiv · 27/02/2022 10:59

When does the price of anything come down once raised?!

MaizeAmaze · 27/02/2022 11:09

I think they will rise, again in Oct, then next spring some better fixed deals will start coming back onto the market, but not at a low a level as we saw in 2020.

LampLighter414 · 27/02/2022 11:11

Have you not been watching the news?

They will be high for years to come

I doubt it. The Russian situation will almost certainly exacerbate things in the short-term. Longer-term there might be some stabilisation if Europe can find new solutions to energy supply and become more self-sufficient, but I think it's going to be a rough few years till then.

The invasion of Ukraine will have a massive impact on gas prices, unless you're implying that there has been no invasion?

ThymePoultice · 27/02/2022 13:52

No.

Wow. I hope you are just being dim and don’t mean that the attack on Ukraine is fake.

Stellaris22 · 27/02/2022 15:57

No. And if you think this winter is bad wait till the next one. Experts are saying it'll be even more expensive next winter and colder. It's miserable.

There's a saying in the industry: prices rise like a rocket and fall like a feather.

MintyFreshBreath · 27/02/2022 16:34

I think there will be a steep rise for ages and then it will go down slowly but will still be way higher than it it now. Companies will be extremely slow to pass on any savings and we’ll just all have to learn to live with higher prices 🤷‍♀️

dontcallmelen · 27/02/2022 16:39

Why do we have to live with it though, the government could if they wanted cut the costs/windfall tax/take a bit more of a hit on profits other countries have taken action.

WhoWants2Know · 27/02/2022 17:20

I think market forces may eventually have an effect. After years of austerity, Brexit and Covid, many people have already made what cutbacks they can. Already people are having discussions about whether to "heat or eat". Now fuel prices are affected by Russian conflicts, so people may find it more difficult to afford work outside the home as well.

When a significant section of the population is having to choose between very basic needs, what happens to entertainment or luxury markets? Or any of the things the government wants to tax?
