Offensive Eminem blasting out!

I run an online dog group and every weekend we do a fun dog show (such as funniest dog photo, best puppy eyes etc) as well as weekend competitions. The competitions involve members posting videos of tricks I’ve been teaching on the group in the week.

This morning a video was posted by a member and in the background she has Eminem “criminal” blasting out. Every lyric is clearly heard including “these fucking reds” and “I’ll stab you in the head whether you’re a fg or lez” 😱

I got a complaint immediately from someone who had started watching the video with her 7 year old daughter. I removed it straight away and sent a message to the poster telling her why I’d deleted it. She replied saying she didn’t have time to redo the video and felt it was unfair that she’s essentially been removed from the competition because of background noise.

Was I being unreasonable to remove it?? I suggested she mute it and repost but she said she’d deleted the video after posting to make room on her phone.

YABU - shouldn’t have deleted it, kids aren’t meant to be on the group
YANBU - it was offensive, needed to be deleted.

Background noise? It’s highly offensive language (to all ages) not a washing machine on a spin cycle. It’s more important for you not to advocate homophobia and ableism in your group than it is for the competition to be “fair”.

It’s not your fault they deleted their own video either, how were you to know? Reimposing without sound was a perfect suggestion. If the participant cared that much they’d have kept their own copy in case the uploaded version was lost or anything went wrong. I wouldn’t be deleting potential prize winning cinematography from my possession after submitting an entry Wink

@PincushionTime

Deleting it without speaking to the person who posted it first was a bit shit and to be honest, unless you made the rules clear (ie no explicit music etc) then it possibly didn’t even occur to her.

Do people really need to be told not to include explicit music? Surely it's obvious? It's a dog group not a dogging group.

😂

They probably shouldn’t need it, no, but I always find with things like this, it’s much easier to assume everyone’s a bit of an idiot!

YANBU. I'm pretty much zero tolerance on the r word. Regardless of the rules, any person with common sense should know not to play something like that in the background.

If you are running a business and getting your clients to upload personal data and possible data of others caught in the background, you have a data management issue

Anyone even the uploader can make a subject access request.
If you have a clip of them in a public park with even one other person in it you need to (pay someone to) blur out any other people so that they cant be identifed before releasing the data.

Have a rule of no music, no background voices, no unidentifiable people, nothing which would allow another member physically locate the uploader's home.

If the music is not the poster its work product of some sort so covered by copyright, IP etc and your business is publishing it.

Your brand is fun friendly pets so you should have rules to point out that a basic standard of child safe communication is expected.

Again, just being nosey, but what kind of trick did she teach her dog that she thought Eminem would compliment it?
The mind boggles

YANBU. why on earth would this person think families and children want to listen to violent lyrics? You did the right thing
