AIBU to think British Airways has had a (Russian) cyber attack?

I’ve been unable to get onto www.ba.com

I’ve just heard on the radio that the airline’s computer systems are down, Terminal 5 is in chaos and agents are having to manually check passengers in.

Bearing in mind that Aeroflot has been banned from UK airspace (and private planes with Russian owners/passengers also now banned), is it likely that the Russians have made a cyber attack on British Airways?

Putin has won the psychological war without even trying judging by MN activity today.

underneaththeash · 25/02/2022 21:48

Surely we must be able to reciprocate?

Bloody scum.

Thewiseoneincognito · 25/02/2022 21:51

This is when things start getting messy 😔

Bywayofanupdate · 25/02/2022 21:52

Ebay having problems too

Sassenach85 · 25/02/2022 21:53

Totally not the point - but MY Tesco order was cancelled today for no reason. I found it odd. Now I know it wasn’t just me.

Doubt it was Russia though!

balalake · 25/02/2022 21:54

I doubt it is Russians, given BA previous failures.

shinynewapple22 · 25/02/2022 21:54

We had similar with Jet 2 on the weekend - unable to do online check in and everyone had to have boarding passes printed et the terminal - assumed it was down to the large number of queries after the cancellations due to the storms .

DifficultBloodyWoman · 25/02/2022 21:57

C’mon. It’s British Airways. A shitty website and check in experience is par for the course.

I’ve had all sorts of issues with them in the past and my experience is, unfortunately, pretty typical.

sarahtalkstoomuch · 25/02/2022 21:57

It happens all the time. They had a systems failure a week ago too. Massive one in 2017 as well

Unsure33 · 25/02/2022 22:00

@AlternativePerspective

Well, I suspect a lot of companies will use this opportunity to blame the Russians to cover up their own shit systems.

Much as they blamed covid for their shit customer service. Except now WFH has ended and customer service is still shit.

I can tell you that American companies are already victims and you would be surprised of how this is affecting business here as well.

Imagine thousands of imports in transit and all computers go down . So you have no idea where goods are and no access to paperwork to process imports .

It’s already happening.

borntobequiet · 25/02/2022 22:03

It’ll be Mumsnet next. Then what will we all do?

berksandbeyond · 25/02/2022 22:04

BA are shite, what else is new. Flying with them on Sunday and fully expecting issues

iheartmybeachhut · 25/02/2022 22:07

MN going down?? Perish the thought.

Ottolin3 · 25/02/2022 22:07

At the same time as BA went down I went onto Flightradar24, all plane in the uk were halted, planes arriving into the uk weren’t able to land and we’re stuck sea.

SoupDragon · 25/02/2022 22:07

🤦🏻‍♀️

Honeyroar · 25/02/2022 22:08

Last time they blamed a cleaner for unplugging their system last time!

Undecicive · 25/02/2022 22:10

I use Kasperksy on my pc for virus protection. I can't access my password manager with the password I used for years. It may be a coincidence.

Ottolin3 · 25/02/2022 22:10

@iheartmybeachhut

Where is the evdience ? I want to be proven wrong.
At exactly the same time as it was announced on Twitter and the BA website went down, I went onto flightradar24 which tracks all flights. Every flight in the uk was halted and all flights meant to be coming into the uk weren’t, they appeared to be circling at sea awaiting communication

If it was this morning Friday is the day they do maintenance.

I think vlad must be keeping an eye on Mumsnet , he knows the unprecedented level of angst caused by disruption to online shopping orders. Skip working in getting into the government systems , just take down Ocado and job done.

Is it necessary to take down Ocado? Wouldn't more chaos be caused by wholly inappropriate substitutions which the unfortunate drivers (JesusinaCabbageVan perhaps) then have to process and refund for?
tara66 · 25/02/2022 22:24

It went down last week at Terminal 5 and people have not been getting their suit cases arriving with them either on BA for some time. Very difficult to contact them, Covid had reduced staff etc apparently. See face book - British Airways Complains Advice Group.

Fleur405 · 25/02/2022 22:29

Well it definitely could be…. But then last time BA had a major IT fail it was literally because someone accidentally turned one of their servers off! So I think you may be jumping to conclusions a little bit.
