X3 reduced movement means induction, same for c section?

cultkid · 25/02/2022 17:03

I know that lots of trusts induce if you have a series of reduced movements

Ive already had three episodes all confirmed as reduced on the CTG

Is that the same for if you're having a c section? Do they also bring that forward if you've had confirmed reduced movements? Thank you

AIBU to want my section at 39 weeks?

Don't elective c sections get done at 39 weeks routinely anyway? Mine did.
cultkid · 25/02/2022 17:15

Yes they do, so that's what I was wondering, if they would want to do it earlier at say, 38 weeks? I prefer to have the section at 39 if the baby is growing ok. It's because I've already had the reduced movements I'm wondering if this is a thing?

Baby has been fine on growth scans and since the reduced movements

I would expect so but you'll have to ask your trust.
Would you mind if I asked why you want to delay? With three lots of reduced movement it'd make sense to me to get her out earlier.

LolaO · 25/02/2022 17:37

I had an ELCS moved forward to 37 weeks after repeated reduced movements resulting in a number of overnight monitoring stays. That was safest for baby and I am pleased that they did it.

I see. Yes that makes sense. Have you asked them about the possibility of doing this? I imagine you are on edge a lot!

What does your midwife say?

Auntycorruption · 25/02/2022 17:42

With 3 lots of CTH confirmed reduced movements I would want them out as soon as it's safe, 36w+

phoenixrosehere · 25/02/2022 17:52

I’m surprised they would recommend induction and not offer a c section considering the risks with induction. One of the risks of induction is fetal distress and if the induction fails you would end up with an emergency c-section.

cultkid · 25/02/2022 18:41

No i dont want an induction I would only have a c section

@giza Well it's because the baby is fairly small and I would like to try to grow it if possible. If the recommendation would be to induce at 38 weeks, then I would be offered a c section at 38 weeks too, but this doesn't seem to be the case in my trust? So so so strange.

@lola They said the reduced movements were a funny position of the baby, they had to really hold the CTG machine down to get the baby's HR. they said they thought it was sideways with its hands over its chest, it really really really frightened me. I think you're right actually I'm not sure why I feel like I wanted the baby in until 39, maybe it's because it was at 31 weeks the reduced movements happened. I think you've made a good point. Thank you for sharing your experience with me.

Ive has such a rubbish pregnancy. Im a believer in getting babies out as soon as it's safe. My son was born at 35 weeks and he has got some behavioural and coordination problems, I don't know if it's because he came early or not.
If the baby was growing on a continuous tangent and didn't have any more reduced movements since the 31 week mark (when it happened and I'm 33 tomorrow) then I would prefer to have the baby at 39 weeks. This baby is just on the 10th centile. I don't know if they induce women earlier then they do a c section, if they did that then I would want c section same gestation an induction was offered.

I really don't want a vaginal delivery I have had two sections and I know they are major surgery but I think it's the safest way to deliver a baby and I'm a huge advocate of them, Especially planned ones

@Lunalicious

What does your midwife say?
Didn't make any comments about it and early delivery

Neither did the consultant on Tuesday

But this is another small baby, I have severe anaemia and I'm also suffering with serious kidney issues, I was in the room for an hour with the consultant who said fine to deliver 39 weeks as long as baby doesn't drop off the growth prediction. But I'm panicking now that why is it with a vaginal we induce and with a c section we go ahead with the 39 week thing?

Its confusing to say the least and it's been on my mind all day. I've been too sick until now to think about that bit.

I had c sections and reduced movements
I was in hospital 3 times a week for ctg monitoring and a scan once a week
C section all happened at 39 w. Despite my protests they wouldn't bring it forward at all x

TeddyisMydog · 25/02/2022 18:48

Also to add, on the scan my baby wouldn't move. No amount of prodding, shaking my hips, fizzy juice, jumping Jack's ever got baby to move and they still wouldn't bring my c section forward

This is helpful info,

Did you go in for regular monitoring instead of bringing the section forward

I don't understand why they are happy to induce at like 37 weeks but not happy to do a section at that time

They forgot to book my section even though it was requested over 8 weeks ago. They have put the request in again but god knows if it will be booked. I feel like I will go into labour before then. I'm in hospital every week for something or other if it's not an infection it's pain management or contractions. I even had a (false) positive partosure swab at 25 weeks which was harrowing to go through. I've had contractions which are regular for weeks now and I'm tired and thinking I'll go into labour. My husband said he thinks my body is just practising. I did have the contractions in my last pregnancy but I don't know I feel different this time

Its been such a tough pregnancy.

I'm stressing

@cultkid

I wanted my c section ASAP but they wouldn't budge and insisted it had to be at 39 weeks.
Even on the ctg they wouldn't find babies heart beat and I'd have to lie on my side, get up walk around quickly, empty my bladder, at one point they put ice on my belly anything to get a heartbeat trace but it never worked.
I had a thread on here about it at the time and everyone was urging me to get baby out but the hospital wouldn't listen

Reduced movements started at 30 weeks, at 33 weeks I was in hospital 4 maybe 5 times a week. It was awful so I feel your anguish
The only thing the monitor picked up was regular contractions, I even had steroid injections as at one point they thought baby was going to come early!

Are you wanting to keep baby in as long as safely possible or get baby out? Sorry it isn't very clear x

Wow I would be furious This baby is mega active that's why my reduced movements scared me so bad

Would they have been willing to induce you at 37? It sounds like you were given dangerous care
I'm so fed up of all the preaching that is done about patterns of movement and then when it boils down to it they don't actually do anything and ultimately you get treated like you're wasting time even though a baby isn't moving.

Well I was thinking to just keep the baby in if I didn't have any more reduced movements until day 36 weeks and it carried on

If I did have more reduced movements I would want them to do a section at whatever point that after like 36 weeks because I think it's dangerous

You know what I think I remember you!! I'm sure I posted on there offering support at the time.

If I had even a single episode like you described I would demand a section. Did you ever ask the question about them inducing you instead?

Can't believe you had such an awful experience. So sorry to hear xx

One of mine was born by elective c section at 37 weeks due to maternal anxiety, so if that’s valid I would have thought repeated reduced movements would be as well. You’ll need to speak to the consultant though.

Userblabla · 25/02/2022 20:27

My section was brought forward to 38wks exactly because of reduced movements. I was in for monitoring daily for about 10 days because of reduced movements mostly overnight and early morning and baby always moved eventually on monitoring. They were very clear that I should continue to report them though and then eventually suggested bringing the section forward and I went with their advice.

TeddyisMydog · 26/02/2022 12:37

@cultkid

Yeah I wanted baby out as soon as but they weren't budging and unfortunately I was only able to have a c section so an induction was never an option for me

I would still continue to report reduced movements and they may even give you steroids incase they get baby out early? X

cultkid · 26/02/2022 13:01

This is very interesting
Ill talk to my midwife if I have any more episodes

Thankfully the baby has been moving as usual for the last two weeks

Scan today at 5 to check on their growth and blood flow

This. Get the baby out as soon as feasibly possible.
cultkid · 27/02/2022 08:09

I had a scan yesterday and this is my latest Doppler result and it's scared me
They made references to coming in immediately if I have any other reduced movements

The baby has dipped off a bit on the growth chart

MW booked me another Doppler for next week and a scan for the week after

I'm stressing

She said it was higher end of the range not any comments about normal or not normal

So fed up

X3 reduced movement means induction, same for c section?
