It's weird right?

From what I gather from a friend in Russia, their news outlets are placing all blame on NATO for flying troops to the Russian border and "evil Ukrainian trolls" (nope, no idea). They tell me, when I point out they are wrong that "Putin is just defending Russia from the aggressions of NATO. We are safe in Russia."

@TomDaleysCardigan

YABVU with how you've phrased a post about war. Its not the world cup
This. Failure to read the room in a big way. Hmm My Ukrainian (but "team Russia") 14 year old student could perhaps explain to you why he thinks the way he does.
Luredbyapomegranate · 25/02/2022 06:54

I’d imagine as PPs say it’s being reported differently - or there are at least some different points of view in other parts of the world.

But - Team Russia? - just fucking don’t.

Juno22 · 25/02/2022 07:06

Team Russia??? Blimey.

Much the same tactics as Hitler used. Manufactured ‘acts of aggression’ meant they ‘had’ to invade, etc.

A certain kind of poster is missing the covid controversy

KatharinaRosalie · 25/02/2022 07:19

I think things are being reported differently in Latvia. A Latvian friend of DD’s said tonight on their WhatsApp chat that Ukraine started the war…

Is she Latvian or Russian Latvian? Because a lot of Russians living in the Baltic states are refusing to mix and still get all their news from Russian sources.

This is not true. Mainstream media has the same narrative as here in the UK. Latvians do not support war on Ukraine.
There are some Russian speaking groups that follow Russian media, but that is a minority.

Usernameinsponeeded · 25/02/2022 08:50

Gosh, you’ve really made it sound like a tennis match.

I’m Russian, living in Australia. I have all of my family in both Ukraine and Russia. We all oppose this.

I watch Russian news, I’m surprised even Russian media is also shocked and speaking against the Russian invasion on Ukraine. A lot of Russians live in Ukraine. Just people though, insignificant collateral damage in the eyes of kremlin. Even some of Russian troops had no idea they were about to invade, apparently under illusion they were taking part in military exercise. Russian people are marching in Moscow and st P’berg against war and getting arrested for doing so. This isn’t a tennis match this is a tragedy that is unnecessary.

CourtRand · 25/02/2022 10:23

I wouldn't be friends with anyone who supports invasion

SprayedWithDettol · 25/02/2022 10:30

Your thread title is very wrong. This isn’t a game. Jesus.

WomanStanleyWoman · 25/02/2022 10:36

I think we’ve had more than enough discussion on the thread title now.

WomanStanleyWoman · 25/02/2022 10:37

So why are you opening them all to repeat the same complaint? It's obvious what the subject is.

Exactly. It’s like some people think they have to open every thread and engage with it, or that only topics of interest to them should be covered.

Amnotamug · 25/02/2022 10:39

How old are you ? Bloody insensitive thread title!!

justasoul · 25/02/2022 10:52

@Hellolittlestar - I didn’t say that as a fact, I said I thought it was happening, based on a conversation between 2 13 year olds and the fact that OP’s friend lives in the same country, that’s all.

@KatharinaRosalie, good question - I’m not sure. They live in the UK, and DD always makes a point of saying her friend is Latvian not Russian (even before all this). I’ve never met the parents so never had that conversation.

Keepyourheadscrewedon · 25/02/2022 11:06

Op you are going to need to try harder
