Sedation

Am I being unreasonable to be absolutely bricking it for conscious sedation next week?
I have a decayed back molar tooth that has been causing me agony for weeks, I was referred by my regular dentist to a private one to have it removed due to it being difficult to remove the tooth. After speaking to the dentist today to confirm the appointment they've informed me it will only be around 15 minutes long? This seems to short to be sedated?! I'm terrified especially since dp has to wait outside the building for me to be escorted out after! What does it feel like? Will I hear them remove the tooth? The thought of it all is making me feel ill Confused

It's great. Had it several times.
I feel nothing, remember nothing, then go home and have a little snooze Grin

Last year I had 5 sessions of 4 - 5 hours each and had sedation for all of them.
For 4 of the 5 I had an anaesthetist and he was brilliant. However he wasn’t available for one of them and I had a ‘sedator’. For some reason she had far less choice of drugs to use and I wouldn’t want to repeat that experience. Afterwards I showed disinhibitory behaviour, and I was rude to my daughter who had given up her evening to collect me from the dentist and drive me home. I also felt weirdly depressed which I hadn’t done with the anaesthetist’s sedation.
I’m sure you'll be fine op, but if I did it again I’d make sure I had an anaesthetist and not a sedator.

Oooh that floaty feelingGrin

2 endoscopies and twilight sleep for a tooth. Wish l could have it every day. Life would be so great if l floated round like that all the time.

I love sedation! I’ve never taken hard drugs but I get the sense that’s how they would feel! You feel so rested afterwards. There is some kind of amnesia drug in the mix though so make sure someone else gets all the info you need and let them know you likely won’t remember any conversations you have with them for a few hours after.

One time I was sedated at the dentist, woke up in recovery and there were kids drawings on the walls and I got it into my head I wanted to do one. They brought me paper and a pen and I drew stick figures and wrote thank you to the lovely dentist Grin

Is it similar to the sedation they give you for a colonoscopy?

Desperately hoping I didn't say anything ridiculous after that 😑

Arseinthecoopwindow there’s a reason they’re quite restrictive about prescribing the tablet forms of these drugs! I had Diazepam for a bit, it was lovely! Like floating on a cloud Grin

Well after waking up multiple times last night because of the pain I actually can't wait for this tooth to be removed, a few moments of being scared is all going to be worth it not to be in agony all day/night!

Hi Lovelys, due to have a tooth removed Tuesday with conscious sedation. But I currently have an abscess which they have me antibiotics for today. Will that make any difference? I'm absolutely bricking it xx
