We have a milestone anniversary coming up and I would like ideas for something a bit more special than "lunch/dinner at a nice restaurant" but I'm not even sure what.. hit me up with your ideas/experinces!

We did Teppanyaki years ago which was interesting but looking for something different this time.

The whitebrook (near Monmouth) or Home (penarth) would be my South Wales favourites.

Been to Le Manor twice and it was wonderful. The first time we stayed one night and did the tasting menu. The second time we stayed two nights so did tasting menu the first night and a la carte the second. All completely awesome.

Also not in the least stuffy or snobby. Everyone so friendly and keen to make your visit memorable

Llys Medygg (probably not spelled like that!) Hotel with restaurant on Welsh coast. They did a sort of veggie sharing board with beer battered curried cauliflower I sometimes dream about. Dining was all outside with fairy lights 😀 It was blissful.

The ugly butterfly by Adam Handling in Cornwall, or he also has The Frog in London.. Get the tasting menu it was incredible and our meal lasted for about 5 hours it was so special!

Newjobformoremoney · 23/02/2022 01:59

Ohhhh the Ledbury! London based though. We do a bit of fine dining (and dining in general) and it’s our favourite meal ever!

ElmtreeMama · 23/02/2022 02:32

Sketch in London, hands down.

ittakes2 · 23/02/2022 03:07

Interesting thread thank you

bevelino · 23/02/2022 03:21

The Hutong in the Shard is lovely and memorable.

Cleanbedlinen12 · 23/02/2022 06:37

How about a foraging course with a picnic of what you have foraged?!

FuggyPidding · 23/02/2022 06:41

Best meal ever was at Le Manoir.
Raymond Blanc even came over to wish me Happy Birthday :)

Diplidocus4 · 23/02/2022 06:46

Ynyshir
Absolutely amazing!
And now 2 stars and in Wales

Diplidocus4 · 23/02/2022 06:47

Friends do love The Beach House - it's on my list Grin

Bickles · 23/02/2022 06:51

May be a bit far but the Black Swan at Oldstead is amazing. As good as L’Enclume but different.

PurBal · 23/02/2022 06:52

Budget?

The Ritz at lunchtime is one I would recommend for “stereotypically special”. The fixed price menu is not much more than afternoon tea but much better value.

Bristol: Casamia with wine flight.

PurBal · 23/02/2022 06:56

Just seen that you can’t afford £350pp, Casamia tasting menu is £180pp and our bill was over £500 for two once we had wine flight and aperitifs and digestif. And that was a few years ago now.

PurBal · 23/02/2022 06:57

I wouldn’t bother going to a one star restaurant without doing the tasting menu with wine paring unless you can afford to go regularly (which I can’t!)

DoNotTouchTheWater · 23/02/2022 06:59

@ohhooh

L'enclume!! Absolutely head and shoulders above anything. The Northcote is lovely too.

Really enjoyed lowdale falls in the lakes too, that was a great wrap around experience (spa / food / hotel).

I’d say l’enclume too. It was better than the fat duck.
MinnieMountain · 23/02/2022 07:02

Root in Bristol.

MrsHamlet · 23/02/2022 07:05

L'enclume is my local and its fabulous.
Hrishi has one star - a very different menu which I loved.
Le manoir is incredible.
Both Le Gavroche and Alain Ducasse at the Dorchester are great value for the tasting menu at lunchtime.
Fat Duck was good but not worthy of the hype I didn't think.

UncomfortableBadger · 23/02/2022 07:07

@polkadotty2

Thanks for all the suggestions! A rough idea of prices would also be helpful!

Anywhere from South Wales / Bristol / Reading :)
We have an unusual living set up at the moment (renting in London having not long bought near the Wales/England border )

Definitely Menu Gordon Jones in Bath in that case! Absolutely incredible food.
UncomfortableBadger · 23/02/2022 07:09

…and “only” £165 for a 9 course tasting menu & wine flight Smile

DoNotGetADog · 23/02/2022 07:20

Shame - I came on to say Ynyshir, but I see you’ve ruled it out.

It is amazing if you can find any extra budget. I’ve been to L’Enclume a few times and loved it, but Ynyshir was extra special - the best I’ve been to.

I think about just even the bread with beef dripping butter on an almost daily basis and I went 4 years ago!

justpicksomething · 23/02/2022 07:32

If you don't mind a drive north for a couple of hours I'd recommend Northcote.
We stayed DB&B for a significant birthday and just had the loveliest time. They are so guest focussed and nothing is too much trouble and yet it is so relaxed and pleasant with no pretension. We borrowed bikes and went for a ride. They have curated easy routes of the area for riding or walking. The dinner was fantastic and the breakfast just as good. And the whole thing cost less than dinner for 2 in most of the places on the thread so far.

Footle · 23/02/2022 08:24

Lodore Falls, not lowdale

Davros · 23/02/2022 08:28

Woodspeen in Newbury. Marvellous and good location for you. Otherwise Le Manoir
