Late cancellation

I’m a regular customer at my hairdressers and have visited for years. I had an appointment booked today in an hours time as a treat for an afternoon off work. I have checked my emails and one has come through saying my appointment has been updated to the same time tomorrow which I cannot do. I have tried to contact them to see if a mistake has been made but I couldn’t not get through.

Aibu to go to another hairdressers and not return here?

I feel my time is disrespected, as I would be charged full rate for cancelling an hour before. And no contact was made about why my appointment was cancelled or when I could make it.

I wouldn't not return tbh.
I'll keep ringing incase it was a mistake,
Would a expect a phone call from them though giving the short notice they are moving it. Or could be a system error

SeasonFinale · 22/02/2022 12:06

They are the ones changing the time so you should not be charged if you cannot make their new suggested time.

Personally if you have no attachment to a specific hairdresser then of course you can go elsewhere if you don't like how they have treated you.

Walkacrossthesand · 22/02/2022 12:08

Or you could just pitch up anyway if you're off work, not everyone checks their emails all the time and they'll have to account for themselves with you standing there in front of them....

FairyCakeWings · 22/02/2022 12:09

They should have called you to apologise if they had to cancel your appointment and talked to you to establish a convenient time to rebook.

If you’re happy to use a different hairdresser then absolutely go elsewhere. If like lots of people you’d prefer to stick to the same hairdresser, I’d complain to the salon owner and they might give you a free conditioning treatment or something.

Chickychoccyegg · 22/02/2022 12:11

I'd go anyway, pretend you haven't seen the email

Same.

killerofhouseplants · 22/02/2022 12:12

Seems a bit much to not go back to a hairdressers that you've had for years - I'm sure they're aware that people can't just change times and someone's probably made a genuine mistake.

If they try to charge you for their change, that's different, yes leave

DameOctaviaOstrich · 22/02/2022 12:18

I would never had seen that on time so I'd just turn up as arranged. We rely to heavily on people checking rather than just phoning them
Their error and pretty poor not asking you to confirm if the changes are suitable to you

user1477249785 · 22/02/2022 12:22

Yeah I'd show up anyway

GabriellaMontez · 22/02/2022 12:23

It's very strange for a hairdressers to do this. I would actually think it was a mistake. And I'd ask them this. Ring them again. Or go elsewhere.

ukborn · 22/02/2022 12:26

I just had an appointment changed - the stylist was off sick but they had an alternative one just 20 minutes later. I didn't answer the phone first time as I didn't recognise the number but they called again and I did answer - I've only been there once before there's no loyalty either way but I'd expect this one s exactly what one would expect to happen - they call you and keep calling until they dirán to you, offer an apology and a chance fir you to reschedule at your convenience.
I wouldn't go at the cancelled time but if definitely be calling to say you almost missed the email and it was very inconvenient etc

JauntyJinty · 22/02/2022 12:32

To cancel so late by e-mail and then not be contactable by phone suggest to me a genuine emergency - especially if you've been a customer for years without issue.

You should go by as others have suggested, if it's all business as usual in there and you've been canceled because of something like being double booked I wouldn't go back again

HuffyPuffyStuffy · 22/02/2022 12:46

I would be giving the benefit of the doubt as it is somewhere you have been going for years. It sounds like a genuine emergency.

NinjaQueen · 22/02/2022 15:30

If it's not far away I would probably pop in and see what's what.

It does sound like an emergency if they have emailed at such short notice.

balalake · 22/02/2022 16:13

Did they not have your phone number? Cowards if they do and did not phone, even if someone is unavailable say due to Covid isolation.

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 22/02/2022 16:25

I'd pretend I hadn't seen the e-mail and turn up anyway.

It's probably a mistake.

BearOfEasttown · 22/02/2022 16:41

Yeah this. How DARE they do this. Their whole attitude just proves that they think their time is more important than yours.

@Beeheart

As you say, if you didn't turn up, (or gave inadequate notice) they'd still charge you. As a pp said, just go anyway.

Keepyourheadscrewedon · 22/02/2022 16:53

I had this too, just a text rescheduling my entire app to another hairdresser on a random day and time not agreed or discussed with me.

I called and in no uncertain terms told them it was disgraceful and I would be moving elsewhere. It is not okay.

The customer service post covid has truly gone to the dogs and I am so sick of it.

GrumpyPanda · 22/02/2022 17:15

My hairdressers have had their booking system get all screwed up a couple of times. When things go wrong they're lovely and quite apologetic and try their best to fix things. They also don't charge for missed appointments as quite aware things sometimes go wrong for either side. I wouldn't dream of switching - they're excellent hairdressers with a loyal longtime customer base, and I've got curly hair that takes even a good stylist forever to get right.

TheBodyPiercer · 22/02/2022 17:46

Those of you saying turn up anyway what are you expecting to happen? If they've cancelled they've clearly not got anyone else available to do it.

They definitely should have phoned you but sometimes stuff happens. I've had to cancel appointments very short notice before as my partner was being blue lighted to hospital & its not going to help if clients turn up anyway kicking off.

Svadhyaya · 22/02/2022 18:24

Exactly.

And people saying how dare they do it? Seriously?? I get it's incredibly inconvenient and annoying but it's hardly heinous, especially as there could well have been an emergency

ffscovid · 22/02/2022 21:42

If they have messed you around at short notice without good reason, then I wouldn't be going back but I would assume that the cancellation was an emergency. Power cut at the salon / stylist fell ill etc.

slashlover · 22/02/2022 22:27

We don't know why they cancelled. The stylist could suddenly have gotten ill, would OP have preferred to have her hair done by someone who had to leave every 5 minutes to puke?

As you say, if you didn't turn up, (or gave inadequate notice) they'd still charge you. As a pp said, just go anyway.

Yes, go in so they can explain in detail that the stylist's mother had been rushed into hospital or that they were experiencing an agonising period.

FFS.
