AIBU to leave my current job to this…

Just returned for maternity leave, I have a one year old.

Current job:

  • 2 days a week, out the house 11 hrs a day
  • 45 mins away
  • £850 per month take home

I have an interview for:

  • 2 days a week, one 8hr and one 12hr shift on same days each week
  • 15 minutes away
  • £750 per month take home

The only issue I have is that DD is looked after by my mum (for free) on my second working day each week and is 5 mins away from my current job so I would have to put DD into childcare for both working days. DM is moving away this year so this was never going to be a permanent arrangement anyway.

I think we would ok financially, will just have to cut back on a couple of things each month to make way for the extra day child care and £100 per month drop…

I’m not even sure why I am posting… It just seems like a scary, big leap as I have been an my current job for 9 years and I see everyone there as family, I think I just needed to vent.

I plan to work for the NHS/ambulance service in the long run and go back to college and eventually uni and this job I suppose is more on that wavelength, rather a than mu current financial services job. I think this is also my reasoning for wanting to move jobs.

Well ignoring the actual substance of the jobs (because you haven’t really gone into that, so I assume it is not a factor), this is a no brainer. Stay where you are, I can’t see any benefit in moving whatsoever based on what you have said. I am even wondering why you are asking.

(I didn’t understand

*I couldn’t follow the bit about childcare and second working day, both workings days and your mother.

well new job is 15 mins away - instead of 45 - so thats an extra hour. But is that worth £25? what are the costs of getting to the other job as that may offset

Also - do you get UC or anything similar?

If the job is more where you want to go, then i would probably go for it

Myfootfeckinghurts · 22/02/2022 11:36

Yes I go get UC.. I didn’t mention this in my OP as on MN people receiving benefits tend to be portrayed as scum of the earth… but yes, we get UC.

I spend around £25 per week on fuel to get to current job. I imagine ‘new job’ would cost under £10 per week.

so you would possibly get a little more UC (i have to be honest, i have no idea how it works!)

so you would 'save' £15 - and 2 hours a week technically.
you would 'lose' £25 a week - so take £15 (fuel) off that, £10 so £10 for 2 hours....

I'd move
