Wonderful carers being treated like fodder

First post for me but am so bloody angry. I work in a care home where we have new management and the staff are being treated as if they are not human beings!!
They really are a fantastic bunch of people who genuinely care about the residents and work so hard on minimum wage .
The manager has absolutely no qualifications and got the job to save the company money!!
Obviously this person has been brainwashed about profits and every day shows lack of understanding that elderly people cannot be rushed ,every hour the priorities change and has absolutely no knowledge of clinical needs ..it’s bloody scary how this home has deteriorated so quickly. So many staff have resigned and now very short staffed, which makes it even harder to give adequate care .
Am feeling very disillusioned…if the staff speak up they are accused of being aggressive,if they don’t they carry on being bullied!!
Thoughts and advice would be welcomed. CQC is an avenue but how do staff prove they are being bullied?

OK I understand this is very stressful, DD is a carer too and has worked in a number of homes where staff welfare has not been a high priority. I think you need give The and make notes on what you're being asked (told) to do which affects the residents ( or whatever socially acceptable term your using) adversely.

@GettingStuffed..thank you for your reply but it’s actually the lack of staff that effects the care for the residents and staff moral is at an all time low!Constant criticism and finger pointing if the residents don’t get excellent care seems to be the trend now.
Can assure you that the staff have enough paperwork…weirdly that is up to date at the expense of the residents wellbeing!!

I have no useful advice, but can sympathise, I used to work in a care home and it was soul destroying how the carers were treated. One egregious moment was when they charged a resident 1000 extra a month because he needed an extra carer to assist him, but no extra care staff were added, so the management got to pocket extra money whilst doing nothing.

At one point we complained about our pay, it’s hideously low for care workers, we were ignored, but hey, they gifted us a scratchy blanket for Christmas.

The care industry is filled with wonderful caring people who end up getting pushed out of the sector because it’s so badly paid and so awfully treated that many, including me, end up leaving.

@Babadook76and@AlizeeEasy…Can definitely relate to both of you …it’s absolutely shocking that really genuinely lovely carers are treated so appallingly.
These people are the reason why the owners of homes make so much money…they need food on the table for their families and really do care and the elderly residents are charged so much ,for what I consider shabby care and facilities!
Am definitely having a meltdown today…😢

Some employers in all industries treat their staff like a number
It is not only care workers !
Most Businesses want to operate with a profit & workers who don't cause issues

You need to report to CQC asap! Poor management is a big deal in their reports. If it's allowed to carry on, it will only get worse and it'll be the residents that suffer as well as the staff.

Amnotamug · 21/02/2022 23:49

@Storm1NaTeacup…hmmnnn yes I get that ..but we are talking about human beings rather than numbers ie your parents, sister ,brother, aunt and uncle.
