I've always had heavy periods but, having not had any since 2019 (due to pregnancy and breastfeeding), mine have recently returned with a vengeance!

The pill and internal methods are not an option.

Please share with me your best tips and products for dealing with heavy periods- I want your best period pants, sanitary towels and anything else you can recommend!

Thanks in advance ☺

Ibuprofen can help lessen the flow.

Stath · 21/02/2022 13:11

Mefanamic acid and Tranexamic acid can reduce the flow and pain.

If you’ve finished having babies then the best solution is endometrial ablation. I give thanks every month for having it done as my knickers no longer resemble the lift scene from The Shining.

Ooh really? I did not know this, thank you!

M&S high waisted period pants. Absolute game changer

PeppaPigStinks · 21/02/2022 13:16

Ibuprofen.

Ibuprofen. Wuka period pants.

Period pants, maternity reusable pads and a cheap disposable pad. Disposable pad down for bum end up to as far as it will go, reusable pad from front to back as far as it will go. Set time for 1 HR religiously change the reusable one and then the disposable as needed.
Wet wipe reusable or not or flannel to freshen around tops of legs and bum each time.

I've used cheekywipes brand for all but I'm sure others are just as good - just watch Amazon ones as they are not always proper period pants.

Hope that helps - I've been having periods condensed into 48/72 hrs for past 6years, still awaiting investigation / medicine.

Many people swear by menstrual cups. If it goes on for too long I’d recommend seeing a gynaecologist. I have suffered for years with very heavy periods, leaving it thinking it would get better but turned out to be uterine polyps. I’m now very anaemic. Don’t let it get to that point.

Try a menstrual cup - I was convinced to give one a go from s friend and haven't looked back. Takes a few goes to get the hang of inserting/ removing it, but I love mine and would never go back to tampons or towels now.

Ibuprofen taken regularly. Lessens my flow LOADS and shortens my period by 1-2 days.

BashfulClam · 21/02/2022 13:49

Max dose ibuprofen really helps. I also try and spend some time on the loo just letting it ‘flow’ I have heavy painful periods.
