I have post-covid brain fog and can't work out of the following sentence is grammatically correct:

"I would be grateful if you could please provide me with the best address for me to send your copy to".

It doesn't feel right but Im not sure why!

You could say the address to which I should send your copy - but it's all very verbose -a re you paid by the word?

:)

@Acunningruse

I have post-covid brain fog and can't work out of the following sentence is grammatically correct:

"I would be grateful if you could please provide me with the best address for me to send your copy to".

It doesn't feel right but Im not sure why!

Please provide me with the primary address to which your copy can be sent.

With thanks (or Thank you), Acunningruse.

BulbasaurusRex · 21/02/2022 12:28

Please let me know which address I should use to send you your copy.

It’s unnecessarily wordy and it ends with a preposition (not much of a grammar crime these days, but strictly speaking it’s a no-no).

Bromse’s suggestion works well.

Clarinet1 · 21/02/2022 12:29

It is, strictly speaking, incorrect to end a sentence with a preposition so
...address to which to send your copy OR for dispatch of you copy.

Clarinet1 · 21/02/2022 12:30

Oops your copy, obviously!

emmathedilemma · 21/02/2022 12:30

agree, too wordy and like you're trying to put it into formal language which is unnecessary. "Please provide an address for me to forward your copy to".

Onlywomengivebirth · 21/02/2022 12:30

Where would you prefer your copy to be sent….

Please provide a forwarding address for your copy

Please provide me with you preferred address, and I will forward your copy as a matter of priority.

You don't need the 'for me'
Pangolin44 · 21/02/2022 12:34

Just take out 'me with' after provide and the to after copy. You're repeating yourself a bit! Also get rid of the please, you've already mentioned that you'd be grateful.

"I would be grateful if you could provide the best address to send your copy'

TheDangerOfIgnorance · 21/02/2022 12:35

me twice in the sentence doesn't help. try grammarly

TheMullerLightOwl · 21/02/2022 12:42

Please advise the address to which you would like me to send your copy

Parpophone · 21/02/2022 12:44

Please confirm where you would like your copy to be sent.

mewkins · 21/02/2022 12:45

@TheMullerLightOwl

Please advise the address to which you would like me to send your copy
I like this best.
chesirecat99 · 21/02/2022 12:46

It's technically grammatically incorrect because you shouldn't end a sentence with a preposition but few people stick to the rule eg
Who are you going to send it to?
Should be:
To whom are you going to send it?

It's just a bit wordy otherwise. Do you need to say "I would be grateful" and "please"?

Please let me know the address where you would like your copy sent?
If you could let me know the address where you would like your copy sent, I would be grateful.
If you could forward me the address where you would like your copy sent, I would be grateful.

Summerfun54321 · 21/02/2022 12:58

“What’s your address?” would suffice in my industry.

EthicalNonMahogany · 21/02/2022 12:59

Please send me your address and I will send you your copy.

TheOccupier · 21/02/2022 13:21

I would say that you need your grammar corrected, not that you need it correcting. HTH :)

Acunningruse · 22/02/2022 11:53

Lots of good tips here, thank you. Feeling very rusty and working in a more formal environment at the moment so feel like I need a refresher course of some kind, is this a thing?! Like a duo lingo soo but with quick grammar tests?

OP posts:
EthicalNonMahogany · 22/02/2022 12:58

I don't think you need one! I think you need to write in simple, short, active sentences ("I will send everyone the document to read" not "the document will be circulated around all stakeholders for them to have sight of it blah blah").

EthicalNonMahogany · 22/02/2022 12:59

Formality is clarity of thought and accuracy of expression.
