Summer holidays soooo expensive ๐Ÿ™„

Weโ€™re a family of 4 and have never done the summer package holiday due to the expense. We normally go to centre parcs in Europe. This year I really want to go to Spain, all inclusive is coming in at ยฃ3500-ยฃ4000. Lots of friends and colleagues do this sort of holiday every year and Iโ€™m wondering how to people afford such a large amount of money on a holiday?
AIBU to be reluctant to book or do I need to suck it up and realise this is the cost now, gone are the days before kids when Iโ€™d take myself off for ยฃ500?

I have not been abroad for many years but I have friends who go regularly and they make savings by booking their flights separately and then contacting the hotel directly rather than booking a package deal.

Maybe try this and see if it works out any cheaper?

Good luck!

Turkey seems a bit cheaper

There are loads of options to make things cheaper.

You don't have to go full inclusive and you don't have to go to a Centre Parcs type place.

Check out self catering apartments in the Canary Islands or similar. Loads cheaper!

I've never ever been able to afford a package and unless you're paying big bucks I can't see the point.
They need to make their money sonehere!
I'd rather be in control, book my own accmd, self catering etc

Have you looked at love holidays, quite a bit on there for under ยฃ500 each but luggage etc will add up. When you search you can look for just all inclusive etc. it would be cheap and cheery at that price but worth a look.

Have a look for free child places on jet2holidays. You might find something a bit cheaper than that. Also consider going in late August as likely to be cheaper than the beginning of the summer holidays.

I'd never do AI unless the really nice kind with a la carte restaurants and I don't want to pay for that. Queuing up at a buffet three times a day is not my idea of a relaxing time.

We usually go B&B in an apart hotel so you can have a lateish big breakfast, eat out once a day, and then either have a snacky lunch, ice cream, slice of pizza etc or have a late lunch out and then food like bread, ham, cheese, olives, crisps for dinner. Cheaper than nice AI and a better experience than mid range AI. Make sure everyone pulls their weight in terms of cleaning up and sourcing food.

Or people don't go every year or, go in term time and pay the fine as it's cheaper than in school holidays.

I have a friend that goes on holidays multiple times a year. But him and his wife make a good salary. I would love to be able to afford to do it every year. I say if you can easily afford it then do it.
