To ask about WISC V?

Posting here for traffic, hoping there is an ep, cp or really knowledgeable parent that can help.

My son had the WISC V. FSIQ 22. Although the EP didn't officially give us the score (it was on the bottom of the table). We were told that the FSIQ couldn't be calculated due to the difference in scores. Lowest was 0.1 highest 9th percentile. Can anyone explain how someone would calculate the FSIQ please, is it just the first column added together please? Are the scores so low that the FSIQ is irrelevant?

That's a confusing summary then because using visual puzzles would suggest it was the WISC V. Did they not do block design to calculate the Visual spatial index? We aren't at the moment due to not being able to complete it with social distancing in place but we report in the summary that the VSI isn't calculatable because we didn't do block design.
The FSIQ in the WISC V is calculated using only 7 of the 10 main tasks so comparing the indexes doesn't tell you as much about FSIQ validity because a low or high index score may be affected by a task that isn't used to calculate the FSIQ, if that makes sense? So the psychologist would be looking at the individual task scaled scores to decide validity, though the manual says you can report FSIQ even with variable scores and you just need to interpret cautiously.

There is possibly a difference in practice between EPs and CPs because I am generally using the WISC to contribute to an assessment for intellectual disability while an EP may not be - and an an overall score forms a necessary part of that.
You might want to look into the services in your area for diagnosis of intellectual disability for children if his general functioning is also quite impaired outside of the education setting - with the right school supports a diagnosis can be less necessary but it's really helpful for young people leaving school and accessing adult support services, so that's maybe something to bear in mind for the future.
