great value for a cinema ticket - where's that?
A northern town in Lancashire.

notacooldad · 20/02/2022 23:30

Surely nobody would be that insane.

Or would they? Are there people who would pay £150 each to stand in a stadium bellowing ABBA songs to a recorded soundtrack whilst a group of avatars appear on a screen? of course they would pay it. I eavesdropped on some Southerners on holiday in the Lake District over new Year talking about the tickets for the Abbatar show. I couldn’t roll my eyes any further back in my head if I tried!

Good luck if they want to pay that for a show and I hope they enjoy it but there’s no way I’d fork that much out.

BearOfEasttown · 20/02/2022 23:32

Hmm yeah they are a bit. As a pp said though, it's hard for them to make money with 'record' selling, as most people stream or download illegally.

My 2 DC loved random emo/pop punk/grunge bands in the noughties, and the tickets were £15 to £20, compared to MJ and Whitney and Madonna etc, who were charging the low 3 figures. So THAT was a relief!

I have many happy memories of going to Birmingham NIA, and the Birmingham 02 academy, with my 2 DC, watching bands like Fall Out Boy, Paramore, and Thirty Seconds To Mars, then tootling off to the Travelodge to stay the night, then go shopping in the city the next day with them. Grin Ahhh, good times..............

In 2008 it was reported that the ads on Piratebay generated $3 million (£2 million) in revenue.

I just bought tickets to Iron Maiden, they are not even playing in one of the states top arenas, its a good one but second tier if that makes sense. Two tickets quite a distance from the stage cost me $630. I almost shit a brick to he honest but they are a gift for the metal head children in the family. Cost me about that for Slayer and Cannibal Corpse tickets in November 2019 but they were playing on of the big arenas

GellerYeller · 21/02/2022 00:04

I have Abba tickets! Think about £30 each in their presale.

jobhunter7 · 21/02/2022 00:05

In the 2009 Piratebay trial, the defence estimated the site's yearly expenses to be 800,000 SEK (a little over £60K).

I'm not sure.
I have quite a few tickets atm all are current "big names".
The least I've paid is £35 for George Ezra, the most is £85 for Harry Styles.
I actually don't think it's that bad.

HazelBite · 21/02/2022 00:15

I've paid about £650 for 4 tickets to see Imagine Dragons at Milton Keynes Arena

Well jel, I'd love to see them, but I live so far away that transport and hotel made it unaffordable.
Iamthewombat · 21/02/2022 00:37

of course they would pay it. I eavesdropped on some Southerners on holiday in the Lake District over new Year talking about the tickets for the Abbatar show.

Christ. Now we know why ol’ Bjorn and Benny always look so cheerful. So would I if I had pulled off a giant Swedish rock and roll swindle on this scale.

I just looked at the website. The avatars are performing every night between May and November inclusive, except Tuesdays and Wednesdays, when I expect they need a break from their gruelling schedule. Two shows a day at the weekend.

You can stand up for £75 on the date I looked at. Or sit down for £100. I am not making this up. Fabulously expensive group karaoke. People are barmy.

Iamthewombat · 21/02/2022 00:40

Still, that will see ABBA right for a few more private islands in the Gulf of Bothnia, eh?

EpicGem · 21/02/2022 01:50

Got tickets to one of the Queen and Adam Lambert concerts later this year (providing it doesn't get cancelled). Cost £130 for one ticket. Because I'm in a wheelchair. If not for that, I could have gotten cheaper tickets in the same area of the venue as the ticket I have. Probably the only concert I'll go to as I object to paying double for a ticket just for needing wheels to get round.

Did you not get a companion ticket since you must be on the wheelchair platform?
ISpyCobraKai · 21/02/2022 02:01

I have accessible for most of my gigs, (no stairs), and they come with a free companion ticket, so long as you send proof.
You get a parking pass too if the venue has a car park.

EpicGem · 21/02/2022 02:03

@ISpyCobraKai no, as I don't need a companion. I was offered a free one when they phoned to check my wheelchair credentials (after being sent proof), but there's no one in my social circle who'd go so I turned it down. Well, there is, but they can't get the time off, and it'd probably cost them more to travel to me than I paid for the ticket!

ISpyCobraKai · 21/02/2022 02:10

I always get them anyway.
No one wants to come to Harry Styles with me so I have a spare seat to put my stuff on!

avamiah · 21/02/2022 02:19

Yes ticket prices are horrendous as I saw AC/DC at Wembley about 5 years or so ago and all the decent tickets were sold out or bought by people wanting to sell them on.

I ended up travelling to Wembley and after 20 mins I had bought a ticket with a £70 mark up and I was happy with that as it was a good seat but realistically I shouldn’t of had to do that.
Unfortunately that’s what has happened .

You have to be on the phone as soon as they go onsale, and get presale really if you can. I've not missed out on any I've really wanted doing that.
avamiah · 21/02/2022 02:44

@ISpyCobraKai

Yes I agree with you but for some concerts it’s not that easy as you know these touts pay people to wait on the phone for hours to buy tickets then they re sell them to people like me who will pay over the asking price to see the likes of AC/DC as I’m a huge fan.

It’s the same with trying to get a football ticket for a big game at Wembley, you have more chance of getting 5 numbers on the lottery.
It’s become a professional business the re sale of tickets and it’s just Wrong .

ISpyCobraKai · 21/02/2022 02:49

I don't know anything about football but gigs are getting better.
It's harder to sell them now and if you do genuinely want to sell one you can put it back on Ticketmaster.
Also Twickets is good if you can't get a ticket straight off.

avamiah · 21/02/2022 03:07

Just googled Twickets as I hadn’t heard the name before but I wish I had as it gets great reviews and has lots of tickets for sale at reasonable prices.
Let’s hope AC/DC do one last tour and do Wembley and I’ll be on there.

[quote jobhunter7]Some artists have expressed a moral compass occasionally...

Billy Bragg tickets here for £33 which is not so bad...

Shame he hates women, had to sell my BB tickets for half face value.

jobhunter7 · 21/02/2022 09:52

I think somebody on here said about Ed Sheeran putting in anti-touting measures which is maybe one good thing about recent changes... shame tickets cost now normally what you'd probably have to pay a tout back in the good old days for a popular show...

Also have other artists followed India Arie's leads and left spotify... for not paying properly...

Front block for the Masked Singer is OVER £100 each. No artists are making their living but the producers will be rolling in it
