Heart Of Glass makes me want to be violent, I cannot stand it. I’m not sure what it is. But something about the lyrics, voice and tune trigger something inside me. It came on the radio in the delivery room whilst I was in active labour and it made me distressed until it was turned off.

Also, Ed Sheeran’s songs. Mainly due to the weird lyrics. “My bedsheets smell like you.” Wtf? And in a recent one “I want to drink your smile.” How does one ‘drink a smile’? On the rocks? Also the song where he goes on about all of the depressing hardships his (I’m guessing made-up for the song) friends have fallen upon. One doesn’t see his kids, one is divorced, bla bla bla. It annoys me because it’s not his place to go on about their (made-up, in all fairness) problems for a good song. If the friends are real I hope he asked for permission. This is the same song where he goes on about driving 90mph down country lanes. And the less said about Galway Girl the better.

@Cheeseandlobster that's exactly how I felt when I first heard it. I was driving along thinking "this sounds good" then the vocals kicked in!

I also can't stand Jason Derulo 'Want to want me'. That could be because I miss heard the first line as:

It’s too hard to sleep
I got the shits on the floor
Nothing on me.

I now know it's sheets but I can't unhear it.

MyDarlingWhatIfYouFly · 24/02/2022 05:53

Tubthumping by chumbawumba, just hate it.

malificent7 · 24/02/2022 06:22

I love some of these.

I do hate the way gangsta rap is so insanely catchy yet so violent, misogynistic at the same time. Makes me feel a bit torn as i twerk my way through another tune! Grin

malificent7 · 24/02/2022 06:24

" baby its cold outside" and "santa baby "make me cringe. Leave Christmas alone and feck off with your pervy undertones!

hellithurt · 24/02/2022 07:17

Sitting in the dock of a bay!

I cannot explain why, it just does! 😠

Bravoecholima · 24/02/2022 07:17

Moonlight shadow. The line ‘4am in the morning’ infuriates me

ThreeImaginaryBoys · 24/02/2022 08:02

Florence and the Machine. That awful, awful voice. Sounds like a Kate Bush impersonator burning alive in a karaoke booth.
Absolutely anything by Simply Red.

Sparklingbrook · 24/02/2022 08:10

A lot of these songs are ancient. Haven't heard them anywhere for years, so unlikely to be giving anyone the rage any time soon thankfully. Unless you search them out to be enraged by them specifically. Grin

Take On Me - Aha gives me complete and utter rage.

Very personal and awful part of my teenage years attached to the whole Aha album.

felulageller · 24/02/2022 08:17

All I want for Christmas is you by Mariah Carey.

No Alexa, when I ask for Christmas songs I don't mean this!

cobblers123 · 24/02/2022 09:05

Nine Million Bicycles by Katie Melua can easily be topped by The Flood which is even worse.

@FuzzyPuffling

"Once I was seven years old..." etc. Until he says he'll be 60 one day and hopes his kids might visit. Because, as he intimates, anything over 30 is brain dead. I HATE this song with a vengeance.
Well yes, “When I’m 64” by the Beatles sounds ridiculous these days.

And “You’re 16” by Ringo Starr sounds downright pervy.

queenMab99 · 24/02/2022 09:50

'Bobby's Girl' Susan Maughan.......................

electricdreamm · 24/02/2022 09:51

That song by 'Portugal the man' is it?
It sounds like that postman song and it's such a rip off! Plus it's mega annoying 😂

Whelmed · 24/02/2022 09:56

I don't want to miss a thing, by Aerosmith... They still keep playing it on the radio and I have to turn it off everytime.

Dita73 · 24/02/2022 10:29

Perfect by Fairground Attraction
I keep remembering songs and coming back to the thread!

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 24/02/2022 10:35

I'm not even certain why, but I've always detested 'Come Up And See me, Make Me Smile' by Cockney Rebel.

It might just be because there was a time when it was never off the radio - not talking about when it was newly-released, just a random period. That pitch-bend that Steve Harley does is just so irritating, along with the 'ooo-la-la-las' in the background.

However ironic you're trying to be, when you're resorting to 'la-la-la' as a songwriter, instead of taking the trouble to write some proper lyrics, it's a firm No from me.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 24/02/2022 10:42

I also agree with 'Loving You' by Minnie Ripperton. Great shame, really, as it's a lovely song, beautifully sung - only to be completely wrecked with that screamy, ear-piercing ultra-high note. You can't enjoy the rest of the song as you're bracing yourself for the aural onslaught - it doesn't really fit with the song, sounds like they shoehorned it in just to show off the fact that Minnie could reach that note.

As the brilliant Sanjeev Kohli once commented, if you 'Shazam-ed' a fax machine, you'd get that song Grin

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 24/02/2022 10:46

Thankfully, they don't play them much now, but both of the well-known songs by Shirley Ellis - 'The Clapping Song' and 'The Name Game'. Just ugh. However did they escape from the nursery and get into the pop charts? In fact, they'd still be sickly if 3yos sang them.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 24/02/2022 10:49

I've just realised that I put Cockney Rebel in the bin for their 'la-la-las' and then endorsed the non-screamy 99% of the Minnie Ripperton song, which of course includes 'la-la-la-la-la' repeated. What a hypocrite Grin

SillyLittleBiscuit · 24/02/2022 10:50

I'm sure it'll have been mentioned but Blurred Lines Angry

Snugglepumpkin · 24/02/2022 11:06

Jess Glynnes "No one".
A self harm sing along about how you are nothing & no one without other people validating your existence.

charliebear78 · 24/02/2022 11:16

I love Jason derulo "want you to want me"
Love it!
But what you misheard is funny

the80sweregreat · 24/02/2022 11:23

I loath that ' loving you ' song by Minnie Ripperton
It was around when I was at school and brings back bad memories!
The birds tweeting away on it is also dire too
