I have no idea

My 5 year old went a few days this week and did not eat
Only wanted milk

So much food put down in Front of her

Good day
Pancakes
Watermelon
Yoghurt
Apple
Pasta
Cheese slices
Grapes
Milk
Juice smoothies

Bad day
Savoury waffle one bite
Orange
Water
Apple
Lots of milk

Just awful

Where do I go with this
School helping to monitor and encourage

Bad days are usually 2-3 times a week

Multivitamin every day also

I was told to look at what’s eaten over the course of a week not on a day to day basis?

What’s her weight like? Does she have energy?

busyeatingbiscuits · 20/02/2022 14:15

A 5yo going days without eating sounds rather beyond “picky” to me.

Have you had any support so far from hv or gp? I’d ask for a referral to someone. Do you think it’s a psychological issue or more to do with the physical act of eating?

Spaghettipie1 · 20/02/2022 14:16

So long as she has energy and is a healthy weight try not to worry. My first was very picky (still is). We make sure all meals are offered, but with something on the table they will eat. For us it's bread. Oven rolls, garlic bread or just bread and butter. It's put down as part of the meal but I know it's the only thing my son will eat. That's fine. Light plain snack of cereal as supper. And we don't punish not eating. It makes it so much less stressful! We encourage trying new stuff, even if it's just to touch it or lick it.

Queenie6655 · 20/02/2022 14:16

Ahh so on reflection this was two days before she had a cold and it happened once before when she was two so I'm wondering if that's linked??

We do have appointment with doctor

Just wondering what others found that worked?

Or private dietician maybe??

Are you sure she's not unwell if she's refusing all food?

One of mine is pretty picky. I just try to make sure there is something on the plate she will eat, eg bread or roast potatoes and encourage her to at least try the rest. I just take it away if she doesn't eat it.

rambleonplease · 20/02/2022 14:18

My 2nd (4yrs) is a picky eater so here to see if I can get any tips! My first went through a phase from 3-6 where she was not great but now at 9 she is much better.

My 2nd had CMPA until 2.5 years. I was warned then that this might make him fussy. I try to give him a variety of foods and let him choose what and how much he eats. But he will often go ballistic if I put something on his plate that he won't eat! Such as vegetables or meat! So this makes it harder to expose him to foods new food as he gets so worked up about it!

In desperation I give him food he likes with hidden veg such as pesto pasta with broccoli or Mac cheese with cauliflower. It's still hit and miss if he eats this though.

I do try not make a big deal about food. That worked with my 1st. I guess time will tell with this one, he is a lot more picky though, but is in the 50th centile for weight, so I cannot really get that worried as he's really not underweight.

Is your DDs weight ok?

Queenie6655 · 20/02/2022 14:18

I'm going to try to push more homemade smoothies and soup

Most days she tries them

She has lots of energy and healthy weight

I just worry so much about next steps??!

If she is energetic and healthy don't worry!

Queenie6655 · 20/02/2022 14:24

@rambleonplease excuse my silly question

Would you recommend mixing veg into pasta dishes or blending it into sauces?

She drinks 5 sippy cups full of milk per day !!!!

If her weight is healthy and she’s got loads of energy I wouldn’t worry and defo wouldn’t make it into a big deal.

That’s a lot of milk though which may be filling her up!

When you speak to the doctor ask them about ARFID.
It might not be that but it's a possibility and should at least be eliminated.
If it us ARFID then therapy can really help.

Queenie6655 · 20/02/2022 14:34

Ok will look it up xxx

For my son I blend it into the sauce.

There is a great website from NZ called my fussy eater. Lots of great recipes with healthy snacks. Healthy muffins etc to give instead of milk. That much milk will probably be filling her up.

Namechangehereandnow · 20/02/2022 14:50

She’s probably drinking too much milk, filling up, so doesn’t eat food.
I would work out what you want to feed her and just feed without fuss. If she eats, she eats, if not, she’ll eat later. But the milk will be filling her, id reduce that first, she needs calories from food at her age more that from milk. Don’t give her choices .. have set meal times. You need to be in control.

Queenie6655 · 20/02/2022 15:14

Excellent

And thanks all

I had tried to replace 2/3 beakers with water and not milk
