Does anyone else hate afternoons

Maybe this is a weird one but I hate afternoons and feel quite low. Weekdays not too bad as working at home an have bits to do, weekends I love my lazy mornings, coffee and catch up with tv, love my evenings, nice glass of wine, a meal and a film, but afternoons feel dreary, esp at weekends , its a long slog till the evening and I don't have small children anymore. Im sat here now bored out of my mind, despite loads to do at home and thinking its not even 3.

I wonder if this afternoon depressive feeling is a thing or just me?

@Waxonwaxoff0

I hate afternoons on any day! I'm a morning person, get my best work done in the morning. I hate the time between 2 and 4pm, just feels like I'm waiting for the evening and I can't be arsed to do anything.
This is it 100%, so glad its not just me , I thought I was weird !

I don't like Sunday afternoons in winter. Summer not too bad.

It's like being a kid dreading school - i just hate the thought of the few hours slipping by till you're back on the weekday merry.go.round. Sandwiches, uniform, cooking, homework, swimming kit, PE kit, dancing kit, sandwiches, uniform, cooking bla bla bla.

Monday comes round so bloody fast!

@Supersee

I hear you. I work shifts so it's not like this everyday but the times I have a day off I hate the time between 3-6pm. No kids or partner here. Love my coffee/telly time in the morning but then I feel like I should be doing something. On weekends everyone else does family/partner time. It's too early for dinner/wine time but I can't think of where to go/what to do (that doesn't involve spending money which I'm trying not to do). Sigh.
Omg this too, its about 2-5 for me, feel fine now as its 5.15 so will be prepping dinner about 6, then almost time for wine !

In the end i took teen dd out and we spent a bit in Primark but i don't care, i had to do something and she was willing so that took care of 3-4.30!

Weird as i love the mornings and evenings....

I'm the same Velvet in the winter. Today we had really heavy snow so I cut short my morning's gym/swim session.

I'm going to buy The Courier to watch tonight but I have essentially done naff all all afternoon, couldn't be bothered to do any of the million things I might have done.

Squirrel - are you me 😂, I have a teen who ignores me most of the time but it feels wrong to leave them alone too much when I am out at work so much!

I'm so relieved I found this attitude in the posts. I don't have a job at the moment so I take child to school, go to gym, run errands. I start to feel depressed about the afternoon. After collecting teenage child I retreat to my bedroom and read or do crosswords or nap. I get that unmotivated cloud. I'm lucky to be able to indulge it for now but when I find a job I'll be planning my hours around this slump.

I HATE 3-6pm. It's depressing for me. I go swimming then by the time I'm home and changed the evening starts properly!

Yeah I find 2-3 a bit DD really. Not really that post lunch slumber time but also not time for an apero 🤔

Doristhedog · 27/06/2025 12:40

i have always hated afternoons even as a child.
Thought it was just me.
thanks for sharing.

EatMoreChocolate44 · 27/06/2025 12:43

I've always found afternoons boring too 😂.

Eldermileniummam · 27/06/2025 12:47

OP I get what you mean but have Young DC so rarely have "free time". When I do I can feel like you do. I find doing something does help, something physical like a walk or a run, or doing something productive at home like clearing out a cupboard or cleaning. I can find it hard to motivate myself but once I'm up and doing it I feel better.

Music can help too.

I have never hated afternoons but now that I have read this, I feel like another damn part of life needs to be examined and discussed with CharGPT.

I have a little ritual around 3-4 pm to have a cup of tea and something sweet, always on a bedroom floor leaning against soft sofa. I just love the feeling of having leg perfectly straight and sneaking a me time moment while the rest of the world is raging on Teams.
