Cannot shift a stone

No sure where else to post this.

I'm a stone overweight largely due to Covid19. Don't feel awful but would really prefer to get back to previous weight. I'm short so there is a very noticeable difference due to the weight gain.

Since January 1st, I have done all of the following with a grand weight loss of zero and am getting extremely pissed off that it's not working.

  • calories of 1200 per day, strictly, none hidden, all tracked on fitness pal etc.
  • minimum 2L water a day
  • no takeaways, no chocolate, no crisps or an unhealthy snacks
  • no alcohol, no white bread, no chips etc.

Felt hungry the first two weeks but that's gone now. Genuinely not cheating or fooling myself but no change to the scales at all. I don't even miss the junk and am finding it easy but no results!

Any suggestions?

Excuse the typos!

I'm on the low carb bootcamp and I've lost 4 pounds in 2 weeks this year so far (since mid-Jan).

Last year I lost 1 stone in 3 months.

I like it because I don't even calorie count. I do miss bread, potatoes, rice and cake etc but sometimes I'll have a bite of DH's etc and that is enough.

What scientific evidence is there that drinking three litres of water aids weight loss?

Mylittlepixie · 21/02/2022 16:48

You have to try out a few things maybe to figure out what works for your body. For me, i went from 10.5 back down to 8 stone after my second pregnancy. The last bit was hard to shift.
My body hates carbs and gains quickly when i eat it, so i reduced it to very low. I ate 1200 calories a day, but at the same time did intermittent fasting and only ate between 12-8pm.
It took me about a year to lose it all and ive been the same weight now for 6 years.
I still have to watch it to maintain though. Im not a strict, but i still follow the same pattern loosely.

That's pretty much what worked for me too

@VanGoghsDog
You are less likely to be eating as you will be spending the day peeing Grin

DrierThanANunsNasty · 21/02/2022 22:13

What utter archaic nonsense some people are spouting here, it actually makes me feel sick.

Do NOT eat less than 1200 calories unless put on a VLCD by a professional.
“If you’re not hungry you won’t lose weight” is quite frankly the stupidest thing I’ve ever read.
As for low carb diets, these were created for epileptic children many moons ago and have now been hailed as the holy grail of diets when our bodies need carbs to function.

Goodness me. Just waiting for the fill your body with aspartame low fat shite brigade to come out next.

OP, it may be that this is the weight your body feels most comfortable at (it happens, especially as we get older). The lack of sleep will definitely be having an impact, as can stress etc.

I’d highly recommend talking to a proper nutritionist or similar professional over what the causes might be rather than take mind boggling backwards diet advice off mumsnet.

That's about the only thing I can think of too. Though, I would eat while on the loo anyway!

The daily calories some of you lot are on is crazy. Isn’t 1200 the absolute minimum you should ever be eating in most circumstances?
I’m 5f2 (at best) and mid 30s. Admittedly my metabolism is on the higher end (but this only goes so far). I weight lift four times a week and have to eat 2500 as a minimum if I want to gain, anything less and I’d just maintain. During lockdown I ate way less as I wasn’t exercising but I still are more than 1200! I find it hard to believe that even shorties like me aren’t going to loose weight on 1200 unless you are literally sat on your arse all day.

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 21/02/2022 23:12

@Proudboomer

Don’t calorie count and carb count instead. Pasta and potatoes are high in carb so bin them and have extra green veg. Grapes have a lot of sugar so stick to the berries. If you are eating any bread even brown bread exclude that as well.
I agree with this. I was like you, sometimes eating even fewer calories with little success. I had about a stone to lose too. I'm now doing a light kind of Keto - plenty of protein, full fat Greek yoghurt, cheese, butter, eggs etc, plenty of vegetables but no wheat, sugar or ultra processed foods and it's worked. I've lost 11lbs and feel so well, never hungry and eating food I love.
